Oh! What a busy day! I was so happy that Zorash came to work today even though it was a holiday. She said that she wanted to work today so that she could bank her day off to use another day. Works for me!
As soon as breakfast was over Marcus and I started sorting crayons and coloring the master for the color pages that we would use for VBS. Steve made hundreds of copies of the color pages.
We were supposed to leave for the village of Kpamang at 2:00 but Timothy was late getting to the compound. It was a good thing that he was late because they were not ready for us at the village when we got there. We greeted the chief and then went back to the church building which doubles as the school to wait for the kids to arrive.
Divine was still tied up with his brother’s funeral so we only had one interpreter. We put both adults and children in the same class. We counted the people and there were a total of 185. That is a bunch of people to cram under one shade tree. We forgot to bring the tarps for the children so there was no place for the children to color. We decided that we would not color today. No one seemed to care. One of the church members found an old tarp for the children to sit on. That at least allowed a place for the adults and teens to sit. Evan taught a lesson on Solomon; everyone enjoyed the part about cutting the baby in half! Evan took a machete and a baby doll as a visual aid to emphasize the story. He did a good job!
After class we rushed back to the mission house to get a bite to eat before we headed out again. I made a chicken pot pie and coleslaw after we finished lunch so it only took a few minutes to get the food on the table.
We headed out again at 6:15. By the time we got to Nandundo the brethren had already started singing. Singing is one of the ways the church lets the village know that service is about to start. Marcus taught a more in-depth story about Solomon. You could tell by looking at the audience’s faces that they were into the story! We took the baby doll with us again. One of the older ladies fell in love with the baby doll. The doll is dark skinned and is made of some sort of vinyl and it is heavy like a real baby. The lady held the baby and kissed the baby all over his face; she cradled the baby and told me that I should leave the baby with her. This afternoon the ladies asked if it was a girl or a boy; I looked at the baby’s head and said I did not see any earrings so that meant it was a boy child! Everyone laughed! They then asked what the baby’s name was and I said “Roger”. When Timothy translated it he said the baby’s name was “Elijah”. How he got Elijah out of Roger is beyond me but we went with it; and now he is baby Elijah!
Have a great day!

I know that you are all wondering if I bit anyone today and I am here to report that I had a perfect day! No bites for anyone! Well, except for Donkey; he does not really count. He was sweeping while I was outside playing in the trees. I delight in tormenting him. I run through his leaves; circle around behind him and grab his legs; he in turn swipes at me with his rake that is made of palm fronds. I think he enjoys our romping as much as I do!
A couple times today I climbed up on Evan and groomed him. If I could keep my mouth shut and resist the urge to bite him we would become best buddies! I am trying!
Dad eats these whole grain cookies which have tons of oats; they are not very sweet. He gave me a small piece and then I had to have another; they might become my new favorite thing! The only problem is that he is stingy with the cookies; why did I just get little pieces? Come on Dad, splurge and give me a whole cookie!
I was so excited that Mom found oranges! It has been several weeks since I had an orange; it was a real treat! I am almost as excited about the oranges as I was about the bananas she got a couple days ago.
I demand a whole cookie!
Love, Skeeter
