We are back in Yendi.  We got here around 8:00 this evening which is far later than we like to travel.  We took the last flight out of Accra to give the goldsmith enough time to do the repairs on my earrings; you can imagine my disappointment when we fought traffic thru the center of Accra only to find out that they had not even started the repairs.  The lady was very apologetic and tried to get us to stay another day so they could do the repairs but we could not waste any more time on that particular project.  We picked up the earrings and headed to the airport.

Ghana is in the middle of the rainy season; it rained off and on while we were driving from Tamale to Yendi.  Red, the driver, said that Yendi was getting rain almost every day and that the crops were doing well.  He said that he made a small 2 acre farm this year; he planted corn.  This is his first attempt at farming so he is excited about the whole process and watching the plants grow.

We were surprised when we landed at the airport in Tamale because 4 days ago they opened the new Tamale airport.  Tamale is now an international airport.  No international flights have flown into Tamale yet but the government wants to make Tamale the hub for the Muslims that make the pilgrimage to Mecca each year.  They will probably get travelers from the neighboring countries that want to go to Mecca.

They are making a new road through Yendi and they have blocked off the road that leads to the mission house.  We had to go around and out of our way to get to the house.  Tichak, our old watchman and Kwabena, the new watchman were here to greet us when we arrived and to help us off load the luggage.  Since it had rained today the weather was cooler and Tichak not only had on a jacket but he also had on a toboggan with a pom pom on the top; “It was bitterly cold!”

Before we uncovered the furniture in our room Steve ran the vacuum to pick up the dust and knock down the cobwebs.  The only things that we unpacked were our carry ons.  The rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

Thank you for all the prayers offered up for our safety.

In HIS Service,

Steve and Kandie
