Today is my niece Lyndie’s birthday, tomorrow is our grandson Taylor’s birthday and the next day is my sister Cathy and Aunt Daris’ birthdays, and my brother Ric’s birthday is on the 9th.  Too bad we won’t be in the states to celebrate; we will have to make do with birthday wishes by phone!

Steve went to town this afternoon to buy a couple outlets and to look for a small transformer; he bought the outlets but he could not find the transformer.   He said that he checked all the electrical shops and no one had one.  We will need it when Marcus and Evan come later this month.  That might be another thing we have to put on our list for the next time we go to Tamale.  Steve had to do some work on the extension cord; it was not working and he needed it so he could use the power sprayer and clean the monkey cage.

Steve spent the morning working on the monthly report.  I needed to work on the books and enter the receipts but I opted to sew instead!  Sewing is much more fun than balancing the books!  The end of February slipped up on me!

On the 15th ,   the final funeral for the church leader who died last year will take place.  We were under the impression that they did the final funeral and the burial all at the same time but I guess not.  The church leader from Mulipido really wanted us to come to the final funeral but Steve decided to send money instead of buying fuel to drive.  They seemed to be happy with the money.  Steve asked Timothy if he was going to the funeral; he said that he could not go because they were performing the final funeral for his mother.  That is another final funeral that I thought had already been done.  His mother died several years ago.  We will have to find out more about that one; it might not be his direct mother.  Timothy’s father was a polygamist and had several wives.  The children call all the wives their mothers so it might actually be one of his step mothers’ funerals.  It all becomes very confusing!

According to the calendar Ramadan starts today but Donkey said that they did not see the moon last night so they did not start today but they will definitely start fasting tomorrow.  Some of them wait until someone from outside the country, usually Saudi Arabia, calls and tells them they saw the moon.  The Harmattan was thick yesterday; it is possible to have too much dust and or clouds to be able to see the moon.  We think this is just a way of knocking a day off of fasting.

It is time for me to cook supper so I will close for now.  Take care.

The Monkeyshines

This afternoon I heard Mom ask Dad if he would get out the power sprayer and clean my cage.  I knew I was going to get a bath.  Mom had been complaining; she said that I smelled like a monkey.  Well, what does she expect me to smell like?  I am a monkey so I should smell like a monkey!  Right?  Mom brought a new type of baby shampoo from the states; this time it is not Johnson and Johnson, it is some Wal-Mart knock off brand!  It does not smell as nice as Johnson and Johnson but I guess I will have to get used to it because she bought a huge industrial size bottle!  I hope that it lasts a long long time because I would hate to know I had to take a bath every day!  When I got dried off my hair was sticking up on end and I looked like I had gained 10 pounds!  Well, that is a bit of an exaggeration because I only weigh 4 ½ pounds.

I was trying to help Mom with her sewing.  She is putting the quilt squares together in rows.  She matches each block to the one in front of it to make the rows.  Each block has many small blocks inside; it takes her forever to get a piece pinned together because she wants each piece to match nicely.   She pieced 3 rows together and set another behind her so she could sew another row.  She did not know that if I pulled really hard on my leash and stretched out as far as I could stretch that I could pull the pins out of her fabric.  I am quick!  I removed a bunch of pins before she realized what I was doing.  Of course I was in trouble but just between you and me it was worth it and I will do it all over again if I get the chance!

Someone send me a care package with Johnson and Johnson No More Tears! Shampoo,

Love Skeeter
