We had a 114 degree heat index today.  There is a storm trying to form so maybe later tonight we will get some rain and cool things off.  The electricity is off and we are running on generator power.  We are so thankful for the generator and give a little “thank you” every time we turn it on.  Almost every time it is raining or threatening rain the power goes off.  We think that the power company is paying a man to run in and turn it off when it rains.  Ha!

We got back from Tamale around noon today.  We had an enjoyable trip.  When we got back we hooked up the pump to pull water out of the cistern but by the time we were ready to start pumping the power went off to the pump that pumps water to the upper tank.  That pump is down at the Child Center and the Center is not hooked up to the generator.

While we were in Tamale Steve bought me a bouquet of flowers; after all it was our anniversary.  This is a very strange bouquet.  They were made by a man that is deaf.  He cut and molded the roses and leaves out of a tanned goat hide that he had dyed various shades of brown and black; the bouquet looks like it is dead.  He put the roses on a piece of wire which he wrapped with some sort of green shiny material.  Then he hand stitched a leather vase for the flowers.  He decorated the vase with cutout flowers also in various shades of brown and black.  I love the flowers!  They will go perfectly in our house with the rest of the weird and bizarre stuff we collect.  Ok!   Let’s be honest it is the weird and bizarre stuff that I collect!

This afternoon I spent several hours blowing the leaves off the patio and out of the front yard; I will be happy when Nazo the day man comes back from his holiday!

Steve put the benches together that we will give the church tomorrow.  The benches come unassembled for ease of transportation.  At first we were taking the churches the benches unassembled but it was difficult for them to get a carpenter to put them together.  Most of the people in the village do not have any hand tools.  Steve decided to put them together before we give them out.

Our son Aaron is doing much better; he still has to have help getting out of bed but once he is up he can move around pretty well.  Now our daughter-in-law Lindsay, on the other hand, has still not passed the kidney stone and is in a great deal of pain off and on throughout the day.  Prayers are still needed.

I talked to our daughter Charity and she got the rotten food taken out of the freezer at our house in the states that died.  She solicited the help of her mother-in-law Regina and her kids to do the clean up.  Isn’t it wonderful to have friends and family?  Job # 32 that I do not want!

In His service,

Steve and Kandie
