We had to take the back door way to the village of Waddig this morning. The reason is the rains have started enough that the village is now cut off by a small river. The back door way requires us to go about 10-15 miles out of our way to the village. It had been several years since we visited the congregation due to the Covid 19.
The congregation allowed their old church building to collapse due to disrepair. They are now meeting in a school block. The collapse of the building has not helped the church to grow. Brother Noah is a leader at the congregation. The chief of the village is a church member so we greeted him before services started since he was sitting on the front row. The members were happy to get the gifts we brought to them; table, tablecloths, Bible, pad & pen, disinfectant, communion bread and juice, and some chalk.
For my lesson I used Matthew 5:13-16 where Jesus taught about letting your light shine. One candle can brighten up a dark room so one person can light up other people’s lives also. The room wasn’t as hot as it was last week at Jagrido; thankful for that!
This past Friday at the church leader’s class the men requested that I discuss “family planning” after services when we visit their congregations, so I did today. Any discussion about reducing the size of the family is met with strong opposition because “who will do the farming” or “who will take care of me when I am old”. Some people go as far as to say it is sinful to do it. I related how important it is to space the children in the family so the mother and all her children can have healthy outcomes. The women in the audience were very pleased to get the medical and scriptural information.
Word got out that Kandie was looking for round grinding stones so before we left the village she ended up getting 9 of them to add to her collection. The stones are the size of a tennis ball; they are used for grinding small items in a stone bowl.
Tonight as we went through town the people were everywhere. Today is the final day of fasting for this year’s Ramadan so the food vendors were busy selling. Hope you had a good Lord’s Day. Please keep us in your prayers.
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
