We went to Tamale today to turn in the Social Welfare report. We thought that we had it completed and ready to go but we found out that they had not only changed the forms but they had also added new requirements. One of the requirements was a “criminal report”. We had to go to the police station to be fingerprinted. Of course we had to pay to have the report done. They said that it would take 10 working days to get the report back; we asked if they could “fast track” the process; the man said that we could get the report next week. We are not sure if that will be faster than the regular time but maybe it will be a few days faster. Another new requirement is that we have to give them a Tax Clearance Certificate. When we got back to Yendi Steve stopped at the GRA (IRS) office to see about getting one. They said that we had to write them a letter and tell them why we wanted one and who requested it. Please, yet another hoop to jump through. Steve has the letter written and will take it to the office first thing in the morning.
I took the laptop and the receipts for the Child Center with us to Tamale this morning so I could enter them as we were traveling. I didn’t want to waste those 4 hours in the truck! I had entered the receipts for March when I realized that the bottom toolbar with the “sheets” had disappeared. I was sick. I checked all the other years and there was no tool bar on the bottom of them either. I tried every which way to make them reappear but finally gave up after Steve reminded me that I normally use the old laptop when I am entering receipts. He thought that the versions of Excel might not be compatible. Sure enough when we got back to the mission house and I opened Excel on the old computer everything was where it should be! I was so happy!!!
The telephone company finally got that desk phone to work! It has not worked since March! It took them about 45 minutes to get it working after they put in the new SIM card. No one knows how long it will work but at least for now it is working. They have not yet been able to give us back the 100 Cedis that were loaded on the old SIM card; that money might be gone forever.
The man that lives in Divine’s house was bitten on the hand by a snake this morning. Thanks to those of you who help with ASV (anti-snake venom medicine) we were able to help him get the ASV he needed. They brought the snake with them to the hospital and then to the mission house to show us. As soon as I saw the snake I told the men that it had eggs. They did not believe me; I am not sure that they knew that snakes had eggs. I asked them if they were finished with the snake because I wanted to open it. When they gave me the snake I went to the kitchen and got the kitchen shears and a knife. We flipped the snake over and sure enough she was full of eggs. The men were amazed! I told them that they did good today; not only did they kill one poisonous snake they killed many!
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
