It was quite in the compound today so I took advantage of the reprieve and did some sewing on my quilt top. I finished a top last week but I had so many blocks left over; I could not stand to see them go to waste so I made a small lap type quilt from the extra blocks. Not sure what I will do with the lap quilt; I might put it in our dirty Christmas and let people fight over it! Ha! There is always plan “B”.
We picked up a nail in the back tire of the green truck. The tire was not flat; Steve was checking the truck for our trip to the bush tomorrow when he spied the nail. We are so happy that he noticed it and we were not between here and Bungbali in this heat trying to change a tire. We probably have at least 2 flat tires a month; it is ridiculous! I don’t think anyone picks up anything off the road except Steve and me. We always find some treasure when we go for our morning walks. We kick the bent nails off the road so they do not get in someone’s tire. As for nuts, bolts and washers Steve puts them in his pocket and brings them home; you can always use a washer. I think that the roads are so bad that stuff just vibrates off the vehicles as they travel the roads.
Zorash just called and said that the hydrocephalic baby died. He has never done well since the surgery. Earlier in the week his mother said that she was worried because he did not seem to be doing well and was sick with a cough. We were afraid they had waited too long to do the surgery but we had to try. The baby is a twin; the other baby that is normal is now in the hospital; she has a bad cough. There is a lot of Covid at Tamale hospital; we suspect the baby has Covid. So sad; please pray for this family and the children.
We had to buy another piece of burglar mesh to put on the front gate. The children have climbed all over the gates trying to get into the compound so they can get the mangos. We chase them away but they just come right back. One jumped over the other day, cut his leg, caught his trousers on the burglar mesh and fell to the ground. The thing is that once they get inside the compound they have a hard time getting back out. We are afraid someone will get seriously hurt and then it will be our fault. We are happy that the mangos are finished for the year!
It was hot again today; the high temperature was 107 degrees with a heat index of 117 degrees; still no rain in sight.
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work. We appreciate your help.
In His service,
Steve and Kandie
