We have been sitting in front of the computer almost all day!  What a tedious job we have had today!  It appears that the Social Welfare office is not going to be able to find our license; the best guess is that it went missing when their office in Tamale was looted after the elections.  We had copies of most of the documents that we sent in; we had to rewrite the cover letters and application letters to attach to the report.  We had to add passport photos and a couple new letters explaining why we were re-submitting our documents.  Steve said that the office in Tamale is not going to like the letters because it might reflect poorly on their office.   I told him there was no better time to lose a document because at least they had an excuse and a good one.

The Social Welfare stuff was not the only thing that we worked on today.  We started gathering information for the renewal of the Child Center’s quota.  The quota is the thing that allows us to stay in the country on a resident visa.  The resident visa allows us to go and come to Ghana as many times as we like without doing any additional paperwork.  The quota has to be renewed every 3 years.  The list of requirements is about as long as my arm; they include everything from marriage licenses to passport photos to resumes’ to birth certificates to non-citizen cards to educational certificates; the list goes on and on.  Fortunately many of the documents are the same as they were 24 years ago when we first came to Yendi so those are just a matter of printing them.  We finished the Social Welfare stuff and are ready to take it tomorrow when we go to Tamale but we are still working on the quota paperwork!  It would be amazing all the things we could get done if we did not have to do so much paperwork!  Ha!

Steve gave the family of a disabled child the money they needed to take him to the hospital in Tamale.  Steve said the 3 month old had severe curvature of the spin and that he felt sure he was blind.  The father and mother immediately took the child to Tamale.  They called Zorash and said that they were on their way home and that the doctor said the child did not get enough air to blow in his ears when he was born.  Now that is one of the strangest diagnosis that we have ever heard!  We are not exactly sure what they are talking about but there is obviously a “language barrier” problem.  Our best guess is that they said the baby did not get enough oxygen to his brain and that caused part of the problems.  The doctor prescribed some sort of medicine and told the parents that they should come back in 2 weeks for a follow up visit.  At that time they would know more about how to treat the child.

Thank you for the love, prayers and support.

P.S.  We got word that our dear friend and fellow Christian Hugh Pepper passed away.  Hugh’s wife Sarah passed away awhile back!   They will be greatly missed!  We don’t think that two sweeter, kinder people have ever lived!  You can’t mention Hugh without Sarah or Sarah without Hugh!  Please keep their families in your prayers!

The Monkeyshines

I have had a perfect day today!  I have not been in that Time Out box today; not even once!  Life is good!  Now mind you the day is not over so there is still time for me to fall off the wagon but I intend to continue being good.

This morning I climbed up in Mom’s lap and put my mouth on her chin, chins are a lovely thing to bite!  She gave me that awful warning sign; it sort of sounds like “aannn”.  I don’t even think it is a word!  But she makes that noise when I am about to get in trouble.  I put my mouth on her chin; when she made that noise I jumped down and ran over to the Time Out box and opened the door and looked in.  I did not go in!   I slammed the door shut and went back to attacking my stuffed monkey!  I just wanted to show Mom that I knew if I bit her I would end up in Time Out.  I actually am a pretty smart monkey!  Mom said, “Next time you need to go ahead and climb in the box and shut the door!”  Ha!  Now, really I am smart not stupid!

Dad bought us a couple avocados; he thinks they would be good for me to eat!  He said they have lots of calories!  I tried the avocados before and I don’t like that mushy texture but to please him I will try them again.  I will give you a full report as to whether I like them or not!

Smarty, Smarty had a party no one came but Mr. Smarty!
