The roofers were only here for a couple hours this morning putting the ceiling on the veranda. It looks very nice and we were pleasantly surprised when Abochi, the organizer of the project, did not charge us for the extra few hours today! The foreman on the job asked us where his “beer” was this morning. Steve asked him if he was a Muslim, he already knew that he was a Muslim. He said that he was indeed a Muslim. When Steve reminded him that it was against the Muslim religion to drink he changed his tune and said that he was not asking for the strong beer; he was asking for the soft drink; referring to coke. Needless to say he got nothing!
Nazo spent the rest of the morning picking up nails and hauling the scraps of lumber to his house for his wife to use for firewood. He also took the bent nails and the scraps of aluminum roofing. He will sell what he cannot use to the scrap dealer. He said that he wants to put up a small gutter to catch rainwater off his roof. By mid-afternoon he needed something for his back pain. He loves ibuprofen!
Mr. Iddrisu could not come to work today because it rained yesterday and he had not covered the soybeans and corn that he harvested last week. He had to go to his farm and spread them out in the sun to dry. Nazo picked his corn at least a month ago but he never husked it or took it out of the field. If he does not do something with it the seeds will sprout inside the husks. He also said he had corn at Kpamang this year and he has not done anything with it either. It may still be on the stalk.
When the Child Center closed today we took Zorash with us to the market to buy corn and soybeans to make another batch of weaning mix for the malnourished children. Soybeans were scarce; they are being bought up about as fast as they come into the market. People buy them cheap and store them until the price goes up.
Divine, the evangelist also grew soybeans this year but he holds his until the price is high. We called him to see if he had any to sell. He said that his children had 3 bowls to sell. We bought them. His children had obviously done some community labor to get the soybeans. He said they wanted to sell them so they could buy something. He brought them to the mission house this afternoon when he came to town. Zorash got the corn and soybeans washed this afternoon and put out in the sun to dry.
The parents of a baby that needs an umbilical hernia repaired came to the Center this morning because it is time for them to go back to the hospital in Tamale to check to see if and when they will do the surgery. Steve gave them the money for the transportation.
Have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
