I lost count of the number of times we went to the tax office today. We were still chasing that tax clearance certificate. Yesterday evening after the office closed Steve met one of the workers at the vendor who sells watermelons; he said that he had looked at the Child Center’s account and had seen a 50 pesewa discrepancy (50 pesewa is equal to 5 cents; a nickel in dollars). We knew that if we could find out the year and the month of the discrepancy we would be able to check our receipts and find out if the error was from us or from the tax office. This morning we figured out that the problem was our fault, I had missed figured the percentage of withholding tax on one of the entries in 2020. The accountant made out a tax bill for the 50 pesewa. We asked him if there would be a penalty for the mistake. He said that there would be a penalty; he said that it would not be the 500 Cedi penalty with the 10 Cedi a day for each unpaid day but that it would be an interest penalty. We told him to figure the interest and add it to the tax bill. He said that he could not do that; we would have to wait until the bill had been paid and then the computer program would generate the interest due. After we sat in the bank for far too long we went back to the office and found out that the interest was 12 pesewa (which equals 1 penny and a ¼). Another bill had to be generated for us to pay the 12 pesewa. Steve sat in line for an hour waiting to pay the cashier 12 pesewa. She laughed when she looked at the tax bill! At almost closing time the tax office called and told Steve to bring them the letter that he wrote requesting the tax clearance certificate. When he came back from the office he had the tax clearance certificate. Praise the Lord! We are so excited!
The roofers were not supposed to come today; they had a funeral to attend but their manager told them to come and finish the job so they did. They were only here for about ½ of the day. They were putting the ceiling on the veranda. We thought that the mason might come back tomorrow to start the plastering but Red had not finished making the metal doors; so they will have to wait until Monday to start.
We thought that we were going to get rain last night but all we got was wind, dust and blowing leaves. At least it was a little cooler.
Thank you for all you do for us and the work. Thank you for your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
