We are still flying high after we got the Social Welfare License renewal certificate! Steve made copies of it today and laminated them. We have to have copies for several of the government offices including the bank.
When we took the thatch off the round houses last month Donkey selected some that he wanted to use to thatch a small building for his chickens. The thatch has been sitting around for far too long. We seriously thought about burning it! It is the perfect place for snakes and scorpions to hide! This morning I asked Mr. Iddrisu if he thought Donkey still wanted the thatch; he said that he wanted them but he had no way of getting them back to his house without paying someone to haul them. We told Mr. Iddrisu to use the motor king and move them to Donkey’s house. Donkey quickly loaded up the thatch; they are no longer an eye-sore for us!
Steve spent the afternoon gathering, printing and re-writing the documents that we will need next month to renew the quota for the Child Center. If it is not one batch of paper work it is another. The Ghanaians love their papers! The Quota is the one that requires 15 copies.
Sayibu, the electrician, stopped by this morning to look at the round houses. When we pulled off the roofs Steve had to disconnect all the wiring and remove the lights and fans. Sayibu gave Steve a list of supplies and we went to town and bought everything that he is going to need.
The tailgate that Gomda ordered for the green truck was not the right size. Gomda said that all the beds are the same but we did not believe it. He is going to send it back and hopefully get the right size. A couple days ago Steve got the front passenger tire off in one of the open gutters. He said that 9 or 10 men came to his rescue and physically picked the truck up and hoisted it out of the gutter. These men are beasts! This is not their first rodeo; the open gutters can be dangerous. Steve had Gomda look at the undercarriage of the truck to see if any damage was done. He found out that the tie rods were worn and needed to be replaced. He said that the damage was not necessarily done from the gutter but it was something that we needed to change to prevent an accident later. We will be without the green truck for a few days. Fortunately we are not going too far for worship tomorrow and the road is paved so we will take the old van; no air conditioning but at least we are not on public transport!
Have a great weekend!

The Monkeyshines
You know that they made a fresh batch of weaning mix for the babies at the Child Center. The weaning mix is sitting on the floor in the dining room. Mom decided that she would cook some for me to try. Now she did this once before when I was just a baby and I did not like it not one little bit so I really did not think that I would like it this time. I was so surprised that it was delicious; it was still warm; she added a little sugar and powdered milk. It was pretty thick and I was able to eat it off the spoon without making a mess! Mom used a baby spoon to feed me! I hope that she makes more for me tomorrow!
The watermelons have come to Yendi. Mom bought one in Tamale and then Dad bought 2 when he saw that they were in Yendi. I love watermelon! The one that they fed me today was a little green; someone is going to have to give Mom lessons about how to pick out a ripe watermelon!
I helped Mom with her sewing this afternoon! I stole her quilt blocks; I pulled out her pins; I pulled scraps out of the garbage; I unthreaded her machine; I lost her snips and I looked around for bobbins. I am death on bobbins; the bobbins are plastic and if I hold them in my mouth just right I can bite them with my canine teeth and crack them. I enjoy hearing them crack under my teeth! The only problem is that Mom can hear them cracking too and then the chase is on! While Mom sews I like to climb inside her dress and take naps. I had 2 naps today! Life can’t get any better than being full, snug and warm and stuffed inside someone’s shirt!
Send me a “green grocer” to pick out the next watermelons!
Love, Skeeter
