The “shopping” went very well today. We hired Bismark and his vehicle to take us to Aburi; the village where the carvers sell their wares. Bismark is the same driver that organizes our airport pickups and drop offs. He is a really nice guy and very reliable!
While I was shopping Steve kept asking if we were going to have to buy another suitcase. I tried to assure him that there was plenty of room in the suitcases we brought but he was not a believer! On the way back to Accra from the carvers’ village we stopped and picked up a huge zippered thick rubber shopping bag just in case I could not get everything in our suitcases. We also bought 1,000 face masks so we will have them to pass out when we visit the churches and to supply the mothers that come to the Child Center. The Ghana government still requires masks so we will try to comply as long as the mask order remains in effect.
We had to wait to re-pack the suitcases until the assistant manager came to work this evening. The manager of the apartment where we stay is so good to us. The apartment complex is tall and skinny. All the apartments are on either the second or third floors of the building. Of course there is no elevator in the building! The manager lets us keep the extra luggage in his locked office. This keeps us from having to lug 10 tubs and suitcases up the stairs that weigh 50 pounds apiece.
I am proud to say that we were able to get all the things we bought in the suitcases without using the oversized shopping bag as an extra piece. In fact we had extra room in some of the suitcase; imagine I could have done more shopping! On international flights the bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each but on the domestic flight from Accra to Tamale they charge by the kilo so the weight does not really matter.
Please continue to pray for us as we make the last leg of our journey tomorrow.
In His Service,
Love Steve and Kandie
