This morning we worked on the storage container.  We had a lot of extra stuff left over from the roof of the new building and we did not want to just throw it in the container without sorting it; removing the nails and stacking it nicely so that we could find it the next time we needed it.  Both Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu got a nice load of fire wood from the leftover pieces.  This storage container is actually a container.  It is one of the metal shipping containers that my dad sent over here in 1997 or 1998.  The containers are hot and no one wants to spend any more time in there than necessary!  A few years ago we painted them white which seems to help.  Today we found some termites and lots of rat poop.  I wanted to put out rat poison but Nazo did not want us to because he likes to trap the rats and eat them.  I just want them gone!

We spent the rest of the day working on the audit for the Child Center that we will have to turn in at the end of the month.  We have kept the books up to date for the day to day expenditures but now we are working on the building project.  While we build we keep a running list of what we spend each day which includes the chop (food) money for the workers, number of workers, building materials, day labor pay and water.

Abochi the carpenter /roofer came bright and early this morning.  He came so we could pay him for the work they had done this week.   He was happy that he had this job this week because one of his close family members died and the family had to perform the funeral.  The guy that died was also the chief of the butchers so today was the day that they were going to enskin the new chief.  In this area they enskin the chiefs rather than enstool or enthrone them because the chiefs actually sit on animal skins instead of stools or thrones.  This chieftaincy does not move from family to family.  The new chief will be the eldest male member of the family.  The only thing that could keep the oldest man from becoming the next chief is if he has a deficiency of some sort such as a crippled leg or hand, an eye missing or is mentally delayed.  The enskinment will include a big festival, lots of food and drink.  They will drum and dance into the wee hours of the morning; it will be a grand time had by all!

Have a great day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
