Abochi, the carpenter, came this afternoon with Red to discuss building the training center.  Abochi will be the one that puts the roof on the building.  He has done all the roofing work that we have done over the years here on the mission property.  Abochi said that the way the architect drew the plans for the roof is one of the most expensive ways to roof a building.  After much discussion we decided that we would go back tomorrow and talk to the engineer and see if we can make some modifications in the roof as well as the foundation of the building, the toilets and the lighting.   We did not know what the architect had drawn until we got the plans.  You know how cheap we are!  We don’t want to spend one cent more than necessary for the building.  Wish us luck with our meeting tomorrow!

This morning Donkey and Mr. Iddrisu started hauling blocks to the new job site and they bought and hauled 20 bags of cement for the project.  Steve called Dawuda the mason and he said that presently he was working on a job but he should be finished on Monday or Tuesday which will give us plenty of time to get the blocks moved.  Our only problem is that we are still getting rain about every other day and the back field is very soft.  We are not sure that the ground is hard enough for the water tanker to deliver the water.  We sure would hate for him to get stuck.  We also need another load of gravel; we might have to buy small motor king loads full instead of a big dump truck.

Meri was late for work this morning because she was at the hospital with her sister.  Her sister is in labor and the baby is breech.  She needs to have a C-Section when Meri left they were waiting on the doctor to come and do the surgery.  The nurses at Yendi hospital are on strike so the hospital is seriously short staffed.

The church brothers from Nalongni came this afternoon and picked up the new metal doors for the church building.  They seemed to be happy to get the doors.  They hired a motor king to haul the doors to the village.  Today was a good day to get a motor king because it is Yendi’s big market day.

The crew that is putting a new road through the center of Yendi has started working right in front of the market and there is nowhere to park on market day so Steve decided he would rather walk to the road side and hire a “Yellow Yellow” (a 3 wheeled taxi type thing) instead of trying to fight to find a parking place.  It did not take very long for a yellow-yellow to stop.  They are only really designed to carry 2 people comfortably but they will put in many more than that.  When we got in a couple other ladies wanted to ride; they had a child with them.  A few feet down the road a man wanted to get in too.  There were 6 grown adults and 1 child riding in the yellow-yellow.   Fortunately there are no sides on these vehicles so the air was moving.  On the way back the guy charged us 10 Cedis; 3 times as much as he should have to take us back to the mission house.  He started to stop to pick up someone and I told him that if he picked up anyone I was only going to pay him 5 Cedis!  He laughed and headed on to the mission house!

Thank you for all you do!

In HIS Service,

Steve and Kandie
