The roads we traveled today were treacherous; covered with big potholes that were filled with rain water from last night’s storm. We traveled about 15 miles to Kpanjamba located east of Yendi. One pothole was so deep I was afraid the engine was going to drown out on me.
The Kpanjamba building is one of the smaller buildings of those we visit. They have no shade trees nearby so we had to meet in the building. The church had 4 benches; a lot of the children were sitting on the bare floor. We didn’t get a number of those attending but it was plain they have a need for more benches. The Church was very happy to receive the gifts we brought; especially the metal communion table and the table cloths. I chose to teach my lesson about the Church being independent as well as being a brotherhood which was received very well.
During services I noticed a little girl about 3 years old that had a large scar in the process of healing. I did not ask what happened but I suspect she got burned. Kids that age are notorious for running into cook pots causing the burns. All cooking is done outside on the ground.
After services one of the church leaders stood and expressed how thankful they were for the gifts. They wanted to thank us but I told them they should thank God and our supporters who made it all possible. We inquired what the church might need. One of the men requested help getting two metal windows to replace the wooden ones that had rotted out. They said when they got the money they would purchase them. We reminded them we would match their funds when they were ready. Immediately one of the brothers went somewhere and brought half of the money and gave it to us so we are going to have the windows made this week.
We were invited to a naming ceremony this afternoon. It took place in Yendi and was a private affair. Timothy joined up with Kandie and me near the adb Bank building where the father met us and led us to his house. The baby was a 41 day old boy. The landlord’s wife was also present with her baby boy that is just a few days older than the baby we were going to name. Both babies were very cute! Kandie had made up a bag with some age appropriate clothes and we added some money as well.
The three children attending at Kulkpeni tonight did well remembering the first 7 apostle’s names.
That’s it for today. Have a good day and try to stay healthy. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
