Yesterday afternoon Timothy Niligrini telephoned me asking if the pickup could go through knee high water? Elijah from Mulipedo said the road were flooded in two places. I have learned from past experiences the water was probably deeper in some places than knee deep so we changed our plans. Kandie reminded me the brothers at Kulkpeni asked me to come sometime and talk more about the subject of witches, soothsayers, and dreams so Timothy said he would try to set it up for me to come this morning.
This morning Timothy telephoned saying it was all set but I would have to have someone else interpret for me because he wasn’t feeling well along with his wife Rita and daughter Sarah. The symptoms he described fit the Covid virus. I thanked him for the information. We took masks with us to services and gave them out to anyone wishing to have one. I am hearing from our family that the numbers of Covid cases are on the rise in north Alabama and south Tennessee.
The class went very well. It is still engrained in the people’s mind that witchcraft, soothsayers, Juju, and the like have some physical power over people. When I said that Satan has no physical power to force someone to do something against their will I was questioned by one brother who asked “if the devil is real?” I said “He definitely is!” All of this comes from hundreds of years of paganism and idolatry. We must remember these are 1st generation Christians so it would be hard to put years of idolatry out of your minds.
After services there was a naming ceremony in which I was involved in. A different Timothy, who attends at Kulkpeni along with his wife, named their little 3 month old girl. I can’t begin to spell her Konkomba name much less say it but it means “Promise of God”. Her English name is Isabella. She is a cutie. It has been a long time since I have held a baby due to the Covid. The ladies at Kulkpeni presented the mother with a gift. It is tradition to pass around the hat to get “soap” money to purchase toiletry items for the baby.
After leaving the church building we went into Yendi to visit the market. Today is Yendi Market Day so it is nice to go look around to see what everyone is selling. We bought some green leaves, green onions, mangoes, and spaghetti.
That wraps it up for today. Thanks so much for your support and keeping us in your prayers. Have a good Lord’s Day and may God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
