We are safely back in Yendi! We arrived just before dark this evening. We left the hotel/apartment this morning at 10:00. We had to be at the airport 2 hours before our flight so after we checked in we had time to eat lunch at the airport. The pickings were slim; we had a choice of fish or chicken with a side of either French fries, fried rice, fried yams or Jollof rice (rice with tomatoes seasonings and fish). Fortunately we are not very picky about what we eat.
Red was waiting at the airport in Tamale when we arrived. It was nice to see his friendly face. We bought a few vegetables and fruits while we were in Tamale. We knew that there was nothing to eat at the mission house. We also knew that Skeeter would be hungry for fresh fruit. He has been eating a steady diet of frozen fruits and vegetables.
We were only about 10 minutes outside of Tamale when one of the rear tires blew out! I checked and the heat index was 112 degrees. I felt sorry for Steve and Red out in that heat lying on hot pavement changing the tire. It did not take them very long before we were back on our way to Yendi. We were pleased that the spare tire held up for the rest of the trip.
Before Red picked us up at the airport he bought 2 used tires for his dump truck. They were loaded on top of the van. As we passed through Yendi we stopped at his house and dropped them off. We were happy to be back in Yendi.
We were surprised when we opened the door of the mission house and saw all the dust! We are in the middle of the Harmattan season. The Harmattan is the dust that blows in off of the Sahara Desert. There was a layer of dust all over every surface of the house that was thick enough that you could write your name in it. We had sent a message last week to Zorash to tell Mr. Iddrisu to open the house so Amama could clean the floors. We called Zorash to see what was going on; we thought that maybe Mr. Iddrisu was sick and did not come to work but Zorash said that she did not see the message. In order for her to see her messages on Whatsapp she has to have data on her phone. Steve pulled out the vacuum cleaner and vacuumed the living room and dining room floors before we brought the luggage in. While I disinfected and washed the vegetables he vacuumed most of the bedroom and bathroom. It all still needs to be wet mopped and the tables and counters washed but we ran out of steam so that will have to wait for another day!
Thank you for the prayers,
In HIS Service,
Steve, Kandie and Skeeter
The Monkeyshines
Today was one of the best days of my life! My parents finally came home! I was a little worried about them at first! I thought that I recognized them but then I was not sure! It only took a few minutes for me to realize that my life was perfect again!
I was a little scared when we first went into the house! Those doors that have springs and close by themselves are a little disconcerting! It would not be so bad if they did not slam shut; that makes me jump!
As soon as Dad sat down I climbed up on his shoulder and started grooming him! I was disappointed because I thought surely I would at least find a flea but he was clean!
As soon as I got out of my cage and into Mom’s arms she said, “Shu – wee you stink!” Well of course I stink I have not had a bath in 2 months and my cage has not been cleaned in the same length of time! As soon as we got in the house Mom dunked me in the water! I was happy to see her but not happy enough to sit still for a bath! I had not even gotten dried off before she said, “You still stink; you are going to have to have another bath in the morning after we clean your cage!” Lucky me! Two baths in 24 hours! How can I possibly survive that abuse?
Happy to have my people back!
Love, Skeeter
