We got rain last night!  It was wonderful; we stood outside and watched it rain!  We have not had any rain since last October.  It took a while for the rain to clean off the roof and the gutters before we could start harvesting it.  When the ladies came to work today they were happy because all of their water containers are full and they don’t have to chase water for a few days!

We have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off all day; Steve took pity on me and told me that he would run into town and buy a guinea fowl so I did not have to cook supper!

Part of the reason we were scrambling today is because Papa Zachariah, the night watchman, told us that since he got the new position he would have to stop working for us as a watchman.  Normally when someone quits they give a little notice but Papa has not come back since he was enskinned to be a chief.  We approached Timothy to see if he thought his brother Simeon would like the job.  Timothy was excited and thought that he would like to work for us but he said he had to check with him to be sure it was something that he would be interested in doing.  Simeon is the one that we have hired as a day laborer in the past; he is a hard worker.  This morning we went up to the tax office to see what had to be done in order to hire him on a temporary basis.  We do not want to hire him without a trial period; we might decide that he is not a good fit or he might decide that he does not like being a night watchman.  We were told that we could hire him just like we do the masons and Red; we would just pay him for the days that he works and pay the Withholding Tax.  It sounds easy enough.  We did not have a watchman last night and we are without one again tonight.  Maybe we can get something set up quickly.

We got several things marked off our “To Do List”.  In the middle of the afternoon Red called; he was in a bit of a panic.  He had a load of plaster sand on his dump truck and he could not get hold of the man that ordered it.  He needed to offload it and reclaim the money he had invested in it.  He wanted to know if we would buy the load from him.  We will eventually need plaster sand when we start working on the pavilion so we opened the gate and showed him where to dump it.  I don’t know what he will tell the guy that ordered it but that is not our problem.  Ha!

Enjoy your day!
