Today we worked on getting all things marked off of our “To Do List” for going home. We got everything marked off except the things that we could not do today. One of the things on our list was to take the trash to the dump. We burn everything that we can but by the end of our stay we always have a couple 55 gallon cans full of stuff that will not burn. We took the cans out to Nazo and he pulled out everything that he thought he could use. He takes all the tin cans and gives them to his children to take to the scrap metal place so they can get a little spending money. Today we showed him how to use the sledge hammer and smash the cans so they would not be so cumbersome to take home. By the time he had taken everything he wanted there was only about ½ a can of trash left and it was not worth making a trip to the dump; we will take it the next time.
We have several things that we will give Timothy Niligrini tomorrow when we go to worship. We kept the 1.5 liter water bottles for him. We filter and reuse the water bottles while we are here but we don’t want to leave them laying around; there is no telling what might start growing in them!
Mr. Iddrisu was supposed to come to work today to start paying back part of the 21 days he took off for his mother’s funeral. Yes, he took 21 days off between his mother’s funeral and his wife’s delivery. Don’t you wish that you worked for us? I think that he thought we would give him all the days off but that is not happening. He can take as many days off as he likes but he would have to take them without pay. He opted to pay them back. We did not make him pay back the days his wife was in the hospital and we gave him 4 days off for his mother’s funeral. I said all that to say that he did not come to work today; he said that he had diarrhea and back pain. I am not sure what the 2 have to do with each other. Hopefully he will come tomorrow because we have instructions that we need to give him before we leave. We wrote him a list of instructions just in case he is not able to come to work tomorrow.
We made a couple trips to town today; the first one was to buy more plastic sheeting so we could cover the bookcases, tables, the stuff in the kitchen and the office. The town is such a mess! The road construction crew has made it to the market; all the vendors we used to buy from have had to move or stop selling altogether. We were not able to get the plastic that we wanted but we did find some larger sheet that we cut to fit. We just got back from our second trip to town; this time we went to buy a barbecued guinea fowl for supper. There is no cooking going on in this house tonight! Tonight’s menu is guinea fowl, fresh baked bread bought from the vendor on the street, canned baked beans and Kimchi! Even if we don’t cook we still eat well!
Take care and have a great day!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
