We made a little boy very happy this afternoon. We delivered the wheelchair to the 6 year old that cannot walk. He was all smiles when his grandmother set him in the wheelchair. One of the older boys gave him a trip around the yard; he is so excited that now he will be able to go somewhere and see something. He lives with his grandparents. His grandfather said that the boy is very curious and is always asking him to take him somewhere. If he hears drumming and dancing he wants to go and enjoy the festivities. He really wants to go to school; we talked to the grandparents about the limitations he might face when going to school. Since he is unable to toilet himself it will be difficult for him to stay at school all day. We suggested that they start with a few hours of school a day. That way they can give him a bathroom break and help him with his lunch. He does not have very good use of his hands and arms either. He is only 6 and a few hours of school at first will be more than enough. After we left their house we went to the medical supply store to look for a portable toilet. His grandmother has to physically lift him and support him when he goes to the bathroom. A portable toilet would be a blessing for him. We only found one that was on rollers and we could see that getting away from the aged grandmother and be more of a problem than a solution. We will look for a better one the next time we are in Tamale.
Dawda, the mason came today and put the metal doors and windows in the new building. There were only a few men on the job today but tomorrow he said that there would be about a dozen men and women working. They will be on their own tomorrow because we are going to Nanjuni for worship in the morning and then to Kpamang for a meeting in the afternoon. We left the chop money with Dawda and the money for 2 more containers of water. Steve went to the hardware store and paid in advance for the cement. Mr. Iddrisu will use the motor king to get it as they need it.
Steve and I spent all morning working on the annual audit. We had a mistake in our calculations and it took us several hours to trace back and find the mistake. We were relieved when everything tallied the way it was supposed to.
Zorash came this morning and roasted the grain for the weaning mix. After it cooled we took it to the grinding mill and made the weaning mix. We are happy to have that job finished. While we were waiting for the grain to cool I made some rice and bean fritters. I used the rice flour that we milled a few days ago. They were delicious. Zorash was so surprised that you could make flour out of rice. I sent the bulk of the fritters home with Zorash so she can share them with her family. I also sent about 5 pounds of the rice flour home with her so she could try to make them herself.
Enjoy your day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
