First thing this morning we built two fires and roasted the corn and soybeans for a new batch of weaning mix.  We give the weaning mix to the malnourished children and to the orphans once they start eating solid food.  The corn smells so good when it is roasting.  Most of the women in this area cook outside with wood fires.  A large branch broke out of the mango tree down by the Child Center; Steve cut it up for us so we could use it to roast the grains.

Warihana’s father came to the mission house this morning.  Warihana is the young teen girl that has Osteomyelitis in her leg.  She has already had one surgery on her leg but it did not get rid of the infection.  We have been working with her for several years.  Her father got fed up with the doctors at Tamale and he found another surgeon that has accepted her case.  The surgery is going to cost 2,000 Cedis (around 400 dollars).   The family thinks that they will be able to bear the cost of the medicine and transportation.  Thanks to your faithful support we will be able to give them the money they need for the surgery.  We are praying that this time the surgery will work.  The doctor plans on removing the dead bone in her leg.  The girl is in danger of losing her leg.

Matinu and his father came to visit this afternoon.  Matinu is one of the motherless babies we started feeding shortly after he was born.  We had such problems with him.  He was being cared for by an aged aunt that did not have enough food to feed herself much less a child.  She was hungry and would eat the child’s food.   Finally we threatened to involve Social Welfare if the father did not give Matinu to another caregiver.  Men do not care for babies and small children.  Matinu’s grandmother started taking care of him and slowly he began to gain strength.  Today Matinu is around 10 years old, attending school and doing very well.  He still loves to come to the Child Center just to say Hello!  Steve gave him a handful of lollipops this morning.

Mr. Iddrisu has started painting the red trim around the Child Center.  It is looking much better.  Everything looks nicer with a fresh coat of paint.  The trim paint he is using is oil based paint; we do not let Nazo paint with oil paint because he is too messy!

Steve called the air condition repair man that worked on the green truck yesterday.  He said that he would come to Yendi tomorrow to see what was wrong with the unit.  Steve checked the fuses but could not find one that was blown.  The repair guy also thinks that it is an electrical problem.

Thank you for the love, prayers and support.

In His service,

Steve and Kandie
