Red stopped by this afternoon and picked up all the money we have been saving for him. He is going to buy a flatbed truck and he is going to make his own tank for the truck; he is planning on hauling water. He said he is going to keep his dump truck. If someone needs water he will haul water for them and if someone needs sand or gravel he will be able to haul that too. Yendi has had a shortage of water for years and it is just getting worse because the population of Yendi is growing in leaps and bounds. Every building project takes water not to mention the amount of water that an average house consumes each day. There are only a handful of houses in Yendi that have running water inside the house.
We picked up a bunch of mangoes again today so we took them to town when we went to the market; we gave them to a few more of our friends. Mr. Adams, the fix-it man, decided that he wanted to walk around the market with us this afternoon and carry our shopping basket. Actually I think that he felt sorry for Steve because he was carrying the basket; just another piece of evidence to prove I am not a “proper” Ghanaian wife!
Steve and I spent part of the morning cutting up the tree that we felled last week. Even though the tree was dead, the wood is still hard. The trunk is so big that Steve does not really want to cut it up but then what do you do with a huge tree trunk? If we can get it cut into pieces that we can pick up we would give it to Nazo’s wife; she digs a pit and makes charcoal.
This afternoon when I was digging around in the refrigerator I found a loaf of old bread; very old bread; it was hard as a board but at least it was not molded. I decided to turn it into bread pudding. The pudding is in the process of cooking and the kitchen smells good! Usually if there is dessert in our house it is because I am experimenting with supper! Yesterday when we were in town we bought some canned chicken luncheon meat. It is sort of like SPAM. I decided to cut it into strips, bread it and fry it. It actually turned out looking beautiful; does it taste like chicken fingers? No, it sort of tastes like a fried hotdog.
Two days ago someone attacked and killed a Konkomba man (Timothy Niligrini and the church leaders and churches are mostly made up of the Konkomba tribe). The blame was put on the Falanis that live in that area. Yesterday a party was organized and they went to the Falani village and shot some of the people and burned the houses; 8 people were killed and there were some injuries. What a mess!
Please keep us in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
