Zeena, Mr. Iddrisu’s cousin, came to the mission house this morning to get the money we promised for her grown son’s surgery.  She was so happy to get the money!  Her English is very good; she was a school teacher.  She said that us giving her the money was such a happy day that she wore the dress she saves for special occasions.  She looked very nice this morning.  She had on a blue and white ankle length dress with a matching scarf covering her hair and she had a matching veil.  She is a Muslim lady.  We asked if we could take her picture because she was looking so nice.  She thanked and thanked us for helping with the surgery money.   She had Mr. Iddrisu thank us for her and then she wanted to go to the Child Center and say hello to Zorash.  When we got to the Center she had Zorash thank us for helping too.  She is going to keep us informed as to how things are progressing with the surgery.  We pass her thanks on to those that help us with money for “Whatever Comes Up!”

We are back in Tamale.  We left the mission house about 1:00 this afternoon.  We had to come to renew our Non-Citizen Card.  I wanted to be the first people in line at the bank in the morning so could hopefully beat the crowd so we decided to come this afternoon and spend the night.  We stopped by the bank before we did our shopping to find out what time they opened.  Steve went upstairs to talk to the officer who does the renewals only to find out that we cannot do the renewal at this time because we are not in possession of our passports.  We had to leave them in Accra with the immigrations department so they could stamp them with our 3 year visas.  We will not get them for at least a couple weeks.  Our Non-Citizen Cards expire on the 19th of September.  The officer would not accept a photo copy of our passports nor the retention receipt that Immigrations issued us which is supposed to be good for anything that requires a passport.

Our trip was not in vain because I took advantage of being in Tamale with nothing much to do and we went to the cultural center / trade fair and I did some shopping.  Shopping is my one weakness!  Ha!  I needed to buy a few things to fill our suitcases; I would hate to come out with an empty suitcase!

We had a lovely supper at the Indian Restaurant that we are spending the night at.  While we were out shopping we bought a brightly colored hand woven basket to give to the lady that helps run the hotel.

Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
