It is raining; it is not just sprinkling, it is raining hard! It is so exciting! The wind is very strong; and that usually means that people will lose the roofs off their houses. The first rains usually come with lots of wind. Later on the sky just opens up and the rain pours without the wind.
Abochi, the guy that ordered formula from Nigeria for us called today and told us that it had come in. We were disappointed with the shipment. Not only were the tariffs too high but one of the cases had fallen apart and several of the cans were open. There is no way that we can give open cans of formula to the children. We could tell that many of the cans in the other cases were dented. We will sort through them tomorrow; hopefully most of them will be able to be distributed. The guy that ordered the formula from Nigeria could not tell us how much the shipping and tariffs would be. He gave us a rough estimate of 1,000 Cedis but today we paid 1,400 Cedis. After all is done and said we are happy to get the formula because we are almost out and the formula we ordered from Nestles has not gotten to the northern part of Ghana. We are not even sure that it has made it out of the port yet. Steve said that he did not think he would order anymore from Nigeria. I told him “never say never”!
Steve had to make a trip to town this morning to the GRA (IRS) office to pay the tax on the hotel/apartment that we stayed in when Marcus and Evan were here. Don’t get me started on that whole tax ordeal!
Steve tried to call the officer that is in charge of the Quota’s and the visa to make sure that we had everything we need for the renewal but he did not get an answer so he sent her an email. Hopefully she will get back in touch with us. It has been 3 years since our last renewal and lots of things can change in 3 years; for one thing we have a new president from a different party.
I had to tear down my sewing machine today. It refused to make a stitch; it had zero tension! I figured that thread had gotten stuck in the tension plates. The way this machine was built I cannot see the tension plates so I had to take the face off the machine and go inside the machine to access it. Sure enough thread was wound around between the plates which caused the problem. While I had it apart I oiled everything that moved. It is working perfectly for the moment!
We have no watchmen tonight; Tichak called and said that something was going on with his mother and Kwabena is still tied up with the funeral of one of his family members. Steve got the security lights turned on just before it started raining; he was out in the dust storms that come before the rain. When he came in he complained about the grit in his mouth!
Please thank the Lord for our rain!

I did very well today; I did not have to go to the Time Out box not one single time today! There was a point that I was thinking about biting and Mom went to the box and opened the door and asked if I needed to go to Time Out! I quickly jumped on the bed and ran and got in Dad’s arms. I buried my head so I could not see that Time Out box! If I can’t see it I can pretend it is not there!
I tried to help Mom take the sewing machine apart; there were screws and tiny parts lying around all over her sewing table! I was itching to get my hands on something, anything! I pulled on Mom’s arm every time I got a chance! All I got for my efforts was a screwdriver. It was a very nice screwdriver with a red rubber handle. It was very pretty; it would have been prettier if it had been yellow; yellow is my favorite color!
It has been raining and I hate it! It is not the rain that I hate; it is the wind and all that dirt and dust! You know that dust gets in my hair and I turn into a bush! It is just like overdosing your hair with dry shampoo! We all know what Mom is going to say, “Skeeter! Your hair is so dirty; you are going to have to have a BATH!
“BATH” is a 4 letter word so it is a dirty word so it should never be used in the same sentence as “Skeeter”!
Love, Skeeter
