Before it got too hot this morning we went back and reattached another section of razor wire and added a second layer to the area where most of the people were coming over. Nazo is the one that opened this section; he wanted it to be easier for his family to come in and help him plant and harvest. We hope he understands that this is unacceptable. We told him that if he opens it again he can buy us a roll of razor wire because he ruined that section. Many times they are like teenagers, they just do not think beyond the moment. He never gave it a thought that if the razor wire is down even in one section the property is not secure from thieves.
The mother with the baby that has a hair lip/cleft palate came back today. She had been successful in getting an appointment for the baby. People here are so funny; they do not like to ask questions or maybe they are afraid to ask but the only information that she got was that she was supposed to report on the 26th of January. She does not know if she reports in Yendi or if she is to report in Nsawam in southern Ghana; she does not know how much money she needs to bring or how long she will be staying after the surgery. We don’t know either. The only advice we had for her was that she needed to buy disposable diapers for the baby and enroll him in the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Warihana, the girl with Osteomyelitis has been back to Tamale to see the doctor at the hospital. He has given her yet another round of antibiotics. Her father is supposed to come tomorrow with the prescription. The last antibiotics cost 90 dollars which is 450 Cedis. There is no way the family can afford this medicine. The minimum wage in Ghana is 2 dollars a day; you would have to work 225 days to pay for that medicine. We hope that they changed the prescription to something more affordable. Thanks to your generosity we were able to buy the medicine and pay for their transportation to and from Tamale.
Divine stopped by today with another batch of the paper work for the churches. He said the thrashing machine was not able to come to his village yesterday or today because they said the machine was new and they had to test it before they could use it to make sure they knew how to operate it and that it ran well. He said maybe tomorrow they would come.
We had a meeting with the workers this morning to let them know that we would be leaving on Friday and what we expected of them while we are gone. They are a good bunch of folks but they need a little guidance. Since the Child Center will not be fully open; Meri and Amama will be raking the yard. The yard has to be raked constantly because many of the trees, especially the mango trees, drop leaves every day. Zorash will help Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo paint the wall and the buildings. Zorash has a little asthma so she can’t be around too much dust. Since we were gone for a long time because of the Coronavirus things had begun to look a little shabby.
Thank you for your love, prayers and support. We appreciate the help.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
P.S. Heat index today was 136 degrees!
