Mr. Iddrisu came to us today and said that he had no food in his house.  He said that he had used all of his money and all of the loan money we had given him to buy the things that his son needed to go to High School.  He said that he only had enough corn flour for supper tonight.  He wanted to know if we had any extra work he could do but he has already picked up all the overtime he can work to pay off his loans.  We told him that we would think about it and let him know if there was anything more we could do.  We had planned on giving the workers a gift of food at the end of the month.  We decided that since his case was so serious we would go ahead and give the food early.  Zorash went with us to the market to buy the items we wanted to give.  We had planned on giving rice but since Mr. Iddrisu was in serious need of food we decided to buy corn instead.  Corn is more versatile than rice.  Most of the people in our area eat corn in some form or fashion twice a day.  We also bought corn for Nazo.  We asked the ladies that work for us if they preferred corn or rice; they all said that they wanted rice.  We also bought rice for the evangelists and watchman.  We also gave them oil and ½ a case of tomato paste.  Everyone was pleased with the gift.  The amount of corn we gave the men will last for at least a month.

This afternoon I ground roasted sesame seeds into a paste so that later on we can make hummus and baba ganoush (roasted eggplant dip).  We will buy pita bread when we are in Accra.  I also made a batch of Shito (Shee-toe) (cooked hot pepper sauce); it is one of Ghana’s best known condiments.  We can buy already prepared Shito but we are not a fan of it because they grind dried minnows and dried shrimp; it is just too fishy for us!

We also made “S Butter” today.  It is made from Shea butter; we heat the Shea butter and add ground sulfur to it; it will get rid of fungus like ringworm.  The mothers love it; I personally cannot stand that smell of sulfur.

Thank you for all you do!  Have a great day!
