It was quiet in the compound today. Donkey took today off instead of Monday so that he could go to the palace to do whatever it is he does there. All of the other workers already have Friday off.
Red stopped by this afternoon to borrow money to rewire his house. He said that all of the wires have melted. Sayibu the electrician said that the only way to fix the problem was to rewire the house. He only has one light that is still functioning. Sayibu told Red not to turn on any of the electricity until he got it rewired. Sayibu is supposed to come to the mission house and work on the electricity at the Child Center because even when everything is turned off the meter keeps running. The electric company said that it is not a meter problem; they think something is shorting out and somehow causing the leak. Red’s problem is bigger than our problem so Steve called Sayibu and told him to go to Red’s house and rewire it tomorrow; he will come and work on our problem next week. Red is actually borrowing the money against the gravel we have order from him. He cannot deliver the gravel because we have had too much rain and he will get stuck when he tries to deliver it.
While Red was here we talked to him about making the frames for bags for the church’s contribution. The bag is going to be a wire frame with a metal handle. Timothy Niligrini will make the bags to go on the frames. We want the frame and the handle to be able to taken apart in case the bag gets dirty or wears out. We have seen some with wooden handles but the bugs here, especially the termites, are so bad that we would rather make metal ones. Last time we were in Tamale we bought the fabric for the bags. We bought used drapes that had been sent into Ghana from outside the country. Most of the drapes already have linings so we won’t have to buy much lining material. If all goes well we will have the bags to give the churches when they come to this year’s seminar.
Steve got caught up on making the master for the receipts for the Child Center. We had already made the spread sheet on Excel but we also turn in a paper copy along with the receipts. We were several months behind because of the time we spent in the states. Even when we are in the states the Child Center still spends money so when we get back we have to play “catch up”!
Steve is also working on his Continuing Education credits; he has to keep both his US nursing license current as well as his Ghana nursing licenses. Ghana actually requires more credits to renew the RN license than the US does.
Please keep us in your prayers.
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
