Zorash, the receptionist for the Child Center, has started a new business. She has a kiosk and is now selling purified bagged water. She says that hers is special because it comes from Tamale instead of being purified here in Yendi. Of course she wants us to buy from her; the price per bag is the same but the guy we buy from now delivers it for free. We will give hers a try but you know how cheap I am! It will hurt me to pay more for it!
Mr. Dauda, the mason, stopped by for a visit this morning and we worked out a contract with him to remove the old wooden doors and windows on the buildings at Kulkpeni and replace them with metal doors. Kulkpeni is the place where we have the seminar. He is going to start working in the morning so we had to make several trips out to Kulkpeni with supplies for the project. On the first trip we took a large water container and Mr. Dauda to inspect the site and tell us what materials we needed to buy. The second trip was to take out the doors, windows, shovels and other tools, and the third trip was a load of sand. When Steve bought the sand there was someone on site to help load the sand in the truck but when we got to Kulkpeni no one was around to help us off load the sand. We got our exercise for today! We will take the cement out in the morning when we go to get the masons started for the day. We paid Timothy’s daughter to fill the water container; she did not have to go very far to fetch the water because there is a well at the edge of the church property.
This morning I asked Zorash about the very small baby that we started feeding in June before we came home. The little boy was 9 months old and only weighed 2 ½ pounds. She said they had not come to the Center for a couple weeks and she was beginning to worry about the child. We checked with Amama who has a friend that is a neighbor to them and she said that the baby had passed away! It is so sad! The mother is not quite mentally normal and is expecting another child. We fear for the new baby! Amama and her friend will help keep an eye on the new baby when it arrives.
We met our neighbor Mr. Oldman while we were out for our walk this morning. He was on his motorcycle taking his youngest child to school. Of course we had to stop and chat for a little while.
Red stopped by this evening to pick up the money he needs to start making the tables for the churches.
Steve just got in from spraying the Child Center for mosquitoes. We are in the middle of the rainy season and the mosquitoes will carry you away if you are not careful. They carry malaria so we try to keep the population down.
Take care and have a nice day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
