We got an appeal for formula today from the Zabzugu area. Zabzugu is about 2 hours from Yendi. One of Zorash’s friends found an abandoned baby on the ground near what appeared to be a building site. The baby was newly born and had not yet had the umbilical cord cut. The baby was a little girl. She had some bruises and abrasions from her traumatic entry into this world. The lady that found her took pictures of her and where she was found. These days lots of people have cameras on their phones. The baby is in the hospital and Zorash’s friend is so excited that she found the baby because she has not been able to have a child of her own and she intends to keep this baby and raise her as her own. We will be able to help with the formula and baby clothes thanks to your generosity.
The mother of the baby with hydrocephalus called today; they have run into a problem already. The doctor said that he could not do the operation without first doing an x-ray or a scan of some sort. The family had to pay 625 Cedis that they had not budgeted for. That is almost 100 dollars. The baby’s uncle also said that when the mother had come with the appeal she forgot to tell us that they did blood work on the baby Saturday which they did not pay for. The hospital wants that money paid before they will move forward on the scheduling of the surgery. Zorash is going to check with the family and see if they have a cell phone that has been registered for mobile money so we can send them the extra they need without being out the transportation money for them to come back to Yendi . I am sure that this is not the last money that they will have to spend.
Warihana’s father called and said that they had gotten back from Tamale last night. Warihana is the young teenager who has Osteomyelitis (infection of the bone) that they have been treating for about 3 years with no success. Her father asked them if they would just cut off the girl’s leg so that she would be free from the problems and the burden it is causing their family. The doctor said that was an option but he wanted her to take one more month of antibiotics and he would meet with the team and maybe they would have come to a decision by the next time they come to Tamale!
Divine is hauling blocks again today. The cistern is drying nicely. The floor in the cistern is sloped so the high end is almost dry but there is still a tiny bit of water in the lower end. We may have to resort to mopping it out; I hope not.
Thank you for all the help you give us for the work! Many people are affected by the things you do for us and for the work. Please keep praying for us and those we strive to help.
