Today we visited the congregation at Bakpaba. Since the road is good going south toward Bimbila it only took us about 20 minutes to get there. The congregation is in the process of building a new structure. They have it roughed in using cement blocks and with a finished roof. Everything needs to have the cement plaster applied. The floor is gravel.
When we arrived we were greeted by two of the church leaders, Brother Moses and Zach. They asked me to teach a lesson about problems of the world creeping into our lives and avoiding sin. We took our regular gifts of communion supplies, chalk, bible, pad and pen, and a bench. This is one of the larger congregations that we work with. The attendance today was 104 including the children.
During the question and answer period we got the #1 question asked most times which is: When you are a student living away for home is it ok to go to a denomination to worship on Sunday if there isn’t a church of Christ? My reply was if you are married and away from your spouse is it ok to go to another man or woman since your spouse isn’t around? You should have seen all the smiles and laughter taking place in the audience. When you look at it that way it becomes clear what the answer is.
As I said earlier the congregation is working on the building so we presented the Church with some money to match their funds to do the cement plastering. In response the audience stood up to show their appreciation to us for the gift. I told them I can’t take credit for this gift because God has given us good supporters so He and they should get the credit.
The chief wasn’t around so we passed on our gift to him through one of the church members. The congregation presented us with some nice tubers of yams as we were preparing to leave.
After getting back to the mission house Timothy and I discussed the topics we will be using for the seminar late next month. It takes 2 to 3 weeks prepping to get the physical needs of the seminar so we have to take advantage of our time and get the lessons now.
This afternoon Kandie and I worked on gathering the data that I will be putting into the Social Welfare report that we will deliver next month. We are going to be pretty busy from now till we leave at the end of November.
Hope you had a good day! We did. May God bless.
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
