We woke to the sound of rain in the wee hours of the morning. It was such a pleasant sound! Then the electricity went off but then again that is nothing new; almost every time that it rains they turn the electricity off. It is amazing how quickly our room heats up when there is no electricity and no air movement! I put my shoes on and traipsed out to the generator and started it then promptly went back to sleep.
Last night’s rain would have filled the cistern but the cistern filters were plugged so the collection box overflowed into the gutter that carries water away from the house. We still collected a good amount of rain water; the cistern is about ¾ of the way full.
Very few mangos fell last night which means the mango season is almost over at least for the trees on the mission property. Some of the hybrid trees will continue to produce fruit for a while longer.
Steve remembered that we have two holidays coming up; Good Friday tomorrow and Easter. The Ghana government gives both of the days off as holidays. We had not made arrangements for the workers to take off. The ladies that work the Child Center do not come to work on Friday so their Good Friday holiday was today and they do not come on Sunday so they will take Monday off as their Easter holiday. Steve called Zorash and explained the holiday situation to her and she called Meri and Amama.
Mid morning Amama showed up at the house; she sells plastic bags as a side job; yesterday I ordered a bunch of bags from her and she came to the house today to deliver them. She could have waited until Tuesday to bring them but she needed her money.
Mr. Iddrisu told Steve today that his back is hurting him again and that the medicine is not working as well as it did when he first started taking it. He needs to go back to the doctor for a review; maybe he will change it to something stronger.
Since Zorash was not here today Mr. Iddrisu and Steve had to run the Center by themselves; fortunately the ladies had lots of meds and weaning mix packed so it made their jobs easier.
When Donkey came to work today he was all aglow because of the extra rain we got last night. He said that he was able to wash everything in his house. He is talking about the outdoor furniture, sleeping mats and the veranda floors. He said everything looks nice and clean! We know how he feels! Nothing feels better than the end of a drought!
Take care,

Mom hurt me today! She did not mean to hurt me but she still hurt me! She was wearing this ugly dress; I had chewed the buttons and the dress would not stay shut. She used a safety pin to keep the dress closed! I can tell you right now that “safety pins” are not safe! There is nothing safe about them; it is a lie! That safety pin popped open and it became very dangerous! I wanted to take a nap; I desperately wanted inside her shirt but when I tried that pin kept sticking me! It is a wonder that I did not lose an eye! When the pin stuck me I would cry! It took 3 times before Mom realized why I was crying! It was a very traumatic event! I think I might be suffering from PTSD!
I have had to take several naps today because I did not get much sleep last night because of the thunderstorm and the rain! I have a very nice little house that is mounted onto my jail cell where I can go to get out of the rain; it also protects me from the wind but there is no protection from the thunder and the lightning! That thunder makes me jump every time! I was so happy when Mom got up early and set me free!
The only problem was that I had gotten wet before I went up to the little house. When I jumped into Mom’s arms this morning she said, “Skeeter! You smell like a wet dog!” “You are going to have to have a bath!” Why would she add insult to injury by calling me a dog? I’m telling you; I think she has a bit of dementia; sometimes she thinks I am a cat and sometimes a dog!
What is the treatment for PTSD?
Love, Skeeter
