We are waiting for Dawda the mason to come to the mission house to collect the pay for the day laborers that were at Kulkpeni helping him put the metal doors and windows in the building.  Dawda does not come to work early in the mornings but he does not mind staying late.  Sometimes we have to pay an “overworking fee”; equivalent to our overtime.

This morning we rented a wheel barrow and bought 4 bags of cement and took them to the job site.  Dawda and the other masons rode their motorcycles which we bought the fuel for.   We took the tape measure so we could measure the doors and windows to see which buildings they belonged to.  No, the doors and windows are not the same size.  Some of the buildings have 2 doors and others have 3; the doors in the same building are not always the same size.  They made the hole to fit the door.  Timothy Niligrini could not find the correct keys for the locks so Dawda just used a small sledge and knocked the frames and locked doors out of the wall.  Whatever it takes; when “Plan A” fails, move to “Plan B”.

After all our measuring and calculating we were one door short!  Please!  We are not sure what happened to the door.  Maybe we miscounted.  We needed 12 doors and 14 windows; maybe Red did not make as many doors as he thought he made; maybe one of the doors grew legs and walked away.  Whatever happened to it we were one door short.  We went all over Yendi trying to find a door that was close to the size we needed but did not have any luck.  Finally we contracted Red to make us another door.  He said he thought he could get it made today but we have not seen it yet.  It needs to be painted before it is put in but we might have to have the mason put it in and paint it later.

Zorash had a meeting to attend this morning so we were short handed at the Child Center.  Mr. Iddrisu and Meri had to see the babies by themselves this morning because Steve and I were chasing around town!

Today was Yendi’s big market day but we did not go because there is almost no one in Yendi wearing masks!  If anyone has ever been to an open air market you know there is no social distancing in those places either!

It is time for us to go to Red’s shop and see if our door is ready so I will close for now.  Take care!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
