The high temperature today was 105 degrees. The humidity was low so the heat index was only 107 degrees. The Harmattan was not so thick and we even saw a few clouds. We love seeing the clouds because it makes us feel like rain is on its way. Actually the clouds don’t mean much.
Steve called the electrician to come to the Child Center and replace the ceiling fans that are in the conference area. The Child Center building is a huge rectangular structure. There are 2 rooms on each side of the structure with a large open air conference room between the 2 rooms and covered verandas down both sides. We used to see the mothers and children in one of the rooms but since Covid hit we have moved outside. There are 2 ceiling fans in the conference area that I have never seen work. Sayibu came this morning and replaced the fans; now we will at least have some air movement even if it is hot air. While Sayibu was here he also fixed the 2 security lights on the backside of the Child Center.
Steve and I went to town a couple times today. The first time we bought eggs, yams, peanut oil and fresh okra. We also dropped off vitamins to Ayshia, the young lady that we buy fresh produce from. When we saw her early in the week she told us that she was 2 months pregnant and that the doctor had not yet given her vitamins. She was very happy to get the vitamins. She caught a ride with us when we left the market; she lives very near the mission house. Our second trip to town was to buy a new wet mop; Amama broke the head off the one we have been using. We also needed diesel for the truck and waterproof paint for the new buildings on the back side of the property.
The father of the child with the huge umbilical hernia had no luck finding a hernia belt for his daughter. We gave him the money to go back to Tamale and see if the doctor that prescribed the belt had been able to find one; they must be scarce. The father also stopped at the new private hospital in Yendi; they said that the surgery could be done at their hospital but they do not have a surgeon on staff. They would put the child on a waiting list for the next time the surgeon comes to Yendi to do surgeries.
Three days before we got to Ghana Red had an accident with his dump truck. He said that he was hauling a full load of sand and he had a bunch of people riding on top of the sand. The road was very narrow with deep gutters on both sides. His front driver’s side wheel got off the road and into the soft sand. He said that he could feel the truck tipping over but was helpless to do anything about it. He saw the people on the back jumping off the truck and the guy that was riding up front with him fell down on top of him. It was only by the grace of God that no one was hurt. No one even got a cut or a scratch! Red had to get the end loader to come and set his truck upright. There is some damage to the door and the side of the truck but it did not even break the windows.
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Love Steve and Kandie
