We heard that they are predicting tornado activity for North Alabama and that the schools in the Athens area were closed today and some of the churches cancelled services for this evening. Hopefully by the time you get this set of Yendi Notes the threat will be behind us and everyone will be safe. Of course we can’t help but worry about our family and friends that live in the area. Please pray for safety for all in the path of the storm.
We got the extra money sent to the family with the hydrocephalic baby this morning. We used Zorash’s phone to send the money because she is the one that has been in contact with the family. We are still anxious about additional expenses that will be incurred but I know we are not as anxious as the family.
Meri did not come to work today; she is sick. Any time anyone says they are sick we are worried that it is the Coronavirus. She said that her whole body ached. There are still no test facilities in Yendi; and most people feel too bad to make the 2 hour one way trip to Tamale to get tested.
Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo started painting the black water proofing paint on the small round houses down at the Child Center. This is the last thing that needs to be painted besides the new building at the back end of the property. We have to paint before it starts to seriously rain.
Speaking of rain we had Nazo climb on the roof of the mission house yesterday and clean out the gutters in preparation for the rain. Guess what? It is raining as I am typing. We cannot collect the rain water because we just got the cistern cleaned out this morning. Nazo went inside the cistern and used a dustpan and mop to get up the rest of the water. Mr. Iddrisu stood at the mouth of the cistern and pulled up the buckets.
Solomon the motorcycle mechanic came this morning and modified a new seat for the motor king. We bought one in Tamale but it did not fit. We bought one in Yendi that almost fit; Solomon picked up one from the motorcycle parts dealer this morning to try and it did not fit. But by the end of the morning the motor king has a new seat. Steve had Solomon change the oil while he was here. One of the rear tires had a flat; the tube was ruined. This afternoon we went to town in search of a new one.
While we were in town we bought a metal stand for the hand washing station that we will set up at the Child Center when we start seeing babies again.
Take care and stay safe! You are in our prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
