We just got the truck unloaded from our trip to Tamale. We now have money; the bank unlocked the checking account and we were able to make a withdrawal. Three trips to Tamale and finally success! We went ahead and took almost all the money. We did not want to chance them locking the account again. We will deposit the extra money in the account in Yendi; at least if it is in Yendi it will be easier to get our hands on.
While we were in Tamale we bought fruits and vegetables that are hard to find in Yendi. The number one thing we were looking for was potatoes. We know we will need the potatoes next week when our grandson Taylor and our son-in-law Marcus come to help us with the work. Did I mention that I am beyond excited that they are coming? I know I did but I just wanted to say it again!
All the workers came back to work this morning; we were happy to have a full staff again. We fully opened the Child Center this morning with all the new Covid precautions in place. Everything seemed to work well and the women followed the seating and moving about procedure. Some mothers were turned away because they did not have face masks. We told them to come back tomorrow. Zorash is thinking about selling disposable face masks to the women that want to come in and do not have one. I think that they will remember to wear one the next time if they are turned away. I am not sure how many people actually washed their hands but they will catch onto that too.
A new seriously malnourished 1 year old child came this morning; she only weighed 11 pounds. Steve was not as worried about her weight as he was her health. She seemed to be very sick and lethargic. Her mother said that she had a fever but she did not have one this morning. We tried to encourage her to take the child to the hospital but she said she had been to the hospital last week and the child was still sick. We told her to take her back to the hospital but we doubt that she will. We gave her food to supplement her diet and increase the amount of protein in her diet but it is difficult to gain weight if you are sick.
One of the caregivers for a 4 month old orphan requested that we give her enough formula to last for one month. She said that she was going to go and stay in a far village to gather Shea nuts to sell and she would not be able to travel back and forth to Yendi to get the formula. We told her we would do it one time and then she had to start coming back every 2 weeks because we have to be able to monitor the baby and its weight.
Have a great day!
In His service,
Steve and Kandie
