Zorash called this morning and wanted to know if she could come and make up the day that she owed from a couple weeks ago. We went to the market and bought 100 pound bag of sugar; when we got back to the mission house we divided the bag into smaller bags that weigh about 5 pounds each. Rita, Timothy’s wife who is in charge of cooking for the seminar would not know what to do with a full 100 pounds of sugar because she never buys more than a bowl at a time. We try to do everything that we can to make her job easier. We also measured and bagged the onions they will use. We bought 100 pounds of onions too but each year they only use about 75 pounds; we reserved the rest to share with the workers.
Zorash told me yesterday that the seamstress who I buy fabric scraps from had collected another batch and wanted us to come and pick them up so while we were out and about we stopped by and picked them up.
We had an appointment to meet Red at his house at 10:30 this morning. He hired a motor king to haul the metal outhouse to Kulkpeni for us. Red went with us to oversee the placement of the outhouse. When we got to Red’s house he was painting the bottom of the outhouse. He said that one of helpers was in charge of painting the toilet but he did not paint the bottom. There was no way the oil paint could dry but the metal needed that extra layer of protection. We had alerted Timothy Niligrini that we were bringing the toilet out this morning; he had a group of men waiting to dig the holes for the legs and to help off load and set the toilet. This time Red used galvanized aluminum angle iron to support the floor so maybe it will take longer to rust out this time. The church members were putting a fresh coat of paint on the buildings today. They called this afternoon to let us know that they needed masking tape to put between the strips of color. The buildings are cream colored with a terra cotta and a black strip at the bottoms; it is a nice color combination.
The electrician got the security lights wired so the place will be well lit. Tichak and Kwabena, the Child Center’s night watchmen, are both members at Kulkpeni; they were working today. Tichak was raking and burning leaves and Kwabena was painting. They got the storeroom that we use for the food storage cleaned this morning so it will be ready when we start taking things out tomorrow.
This afternoon Steve went to town to pay for the medicine that he ordered earlier in the week. The Child Center’s medicine order is always huge so we like to pay Mr. Hayes in advance so that it is not a burden for him when he orders it. It should be in sometime next week.
Thank you for all you do!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
