We were settled in the house for the night when Steve got a phone call from Divine. He was at the gate to the mission house. He said that he had been bitten by a dog and he was consulting with the doctor that lives next door to see if he had some anti-rabies medicine. We rushed out to see how bad the bite was and found out that the dog that bit him belonged to Zorash. He said that he was delivering a load of firewood to Zorash’ s house when the dogs started barking and as he walked past them one of them lunged out and bit him on the calf of his leg; the same leg that he got the scorpion sting on yesterday. Zorash cleaned the bite for him and told him that he did not have to worry about her dogs because she vaccinated her dogs with rabies vaccine. That did not ease Divine’s mind. He decided to see if he could get the anti-rabies vaccine. Steve told him that it would be a series of injections that are given in the stomach. Divine did not care he wanted the vaccine anyway. A little while later Divine called again and said that the vaccine was 900 cedis (about 75 dollars). He said he was looking for the money to cover the cost of the vaccine. Steve said he would come and talk to him about borrowing the money. Meanwhile I called Zorash to make sure that the dogs had truly been vaccinated and that the shots were given this year. She sent me a copy of the receipt from the vet; they had been vaccinated in May of 2023 and the renewal date was next year in May. We explained all of this to Divine only to find out that he had already received the first injection and now owed the doctor 900 Cedis. He had a paper of the schedule for the upcoming shots. I think he is going to have to have 5 more injections. Divine said he did not care about the money; he wanted to be perfectly sure that he did not get sick and grow “mad”! Steve gave him the money for the vaccine in exchange for a pig for the seminar.
The old van is still with the mechanic; he said that he wanted to keep it another couple days so that he could test drive it to make sure that everything was working well.
We have not heard anything from the architect in the past few days. Dawda, the mason stopped by today to see if we had heard anything from him; he really needs us to get started on the new building project because he needs money. He took a draw off the project this afternoon which will tide him over until we actually start the project.
Red stopped by to measure the gutter again. He said that he had one of the grates made and that he would bring them both at the same time after he finished the second one.
It rained heavily this afternoon and no dirt washed up on the sidewalk or into the Child Center. We still have a few low spots which we will have the guys fill in with gravel tomorrow.
Donkey did not come to work today. He usually calls us or Mr. Iddrisu when he can’t come to work but we did not hear anything. Hopefully he just needed to take the day off and is not sick.
Take care and have a great day!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
