Meri said that her son Aliu was doing a little bit better today. Zorash talked to her; she had come back to Yendi to take a bath, get clean clothes and to check on her other children. While she was gone Aliu’s uncle stayed with him. Zorash said that Meri is not happy because even though Aliu is a little better he is still very sick and weak. They have no idea when he will be discharged from the hospital.
We got the truck back and it seems to be working fine. When Steve called Gomda at 5:00 to see if it was ready to be picked up Gomda said that he had sent the truck to the washing bay to be cleaned. Really in this dust and on these dirt roads there is very little need to wash the truck because it will not stay clean for more than 5 minutes. A washing bay consists of a 4 foot square metal water container, a gasoline spray washer, and a young man with some laundry soap and a rag all set up beside the road. A water tanker comes each morning and fills up the tank with river water.
Yesterday Zorash and I went to one of the seamstress shops and picked up the scraps of fabric that she had been saving. Today in between seeing children we sat and went through the scraps and cut off all the tails that were too small to make into scraps for a quilt. Hopefully I will get them washed tomorrow so we can start cutting them into various sizes.
We counted money today and got all the payroll packets for the employees packaged for the next 4 months. We have to do this so it will be ready to leave when we go back to the states. It is easier for Mr. Iddrisu to pay the workers when everything is counted out.
Mr. Iddrisu drove the motor king today while Simeon (Timothy’s brother) dug and loaded the gravel. While Mr. Iddrisu was waiting for Simeon to load the motorking he packed the Shea butter into small containers to give the mothers to use for diaper rash medicine.
Around noon we went to the welder to pick up the corn roaster only to be disappointed again. We did not see the roaster because the welder had not even started working on it. He told us he would have it done in 2 hours but we did not trust him so we went to another welder. The new welder made his out of the inside of condemned hot water heaters. We picked out the hot water heater we wanted and he began to work on it right away. We decided to have the welder make a new and improved model for us; we had him add fins on the inside to help roll the corn over as the cylinder is being rolled and the corn is roasting.
Thank you for everything you do!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
