We are back in Yendi. This afternoon we were sitting in the plane ready to take off; everything seemed to be normal but when the pilot started the engines the plane started, then died. Steve looked over at me and said, “That does not sound good!” A few minutes later the pilot turned on the intercom and said that when he started the engine the auxiliary engine did not come on and that some technicians were coming to look at the plane to figure out what was going on. The plane is a rather small plane and it got hot very quickly. A few minutes later the pilot announced, “The technicians are on their way but we are going to have to have all passengers disembark because we cannot have you sitting on the plane; we are going to off load you onto a bus to wait.” On domestic flights a bus drives us from the terminal to the airplane. There is standing room only on this bus and no air conditioning. If we had to pick standing on a hot overcrowded bus or sitting on a hot plane we would have chosen sitting on the plane. The bus arrived and the pilot told us that he was going to have the bus take us back to the terminal. That was the best plan yet! We got to the terminal and walked up 2 flights of stairs toting our carry-ons. We had no more than gotten set down and gotten comfortable in the air conditioning when they announced it was time to re-board our flight. Excuse me, what could the technicians have done in 10 minutes? I was rather anxious about getting back on that plane. We were happy when we saw them off loading our luggage and reloading it onto a new plane. After we boarded the plane we looked out the window and they were boarding another batch of people on the plane that had the fault. We were proud that we had been given a new plane!
Red, the driver was waiting to meet us when we got off the plane. It is always good to see his smiling face and waving arms when we get off the plane! Once again all of our luggage arrived with us for which we were thankful.
We stopped at the bus station to try to find out information about how to get a few of the evangelists from Yendi to Takoradi to attend a seminar. Steve got the phone number of the bus station in Kumasi; he will call them tomorrow.
Steve realized that Red’s driver’s license expired today so we went to the motor vehicle office to get a new one only to find out that everyone had gone home for the day. We have to go back to Tamale next week; we will take Red with us when we go.
We got back to Yendi around 5:30. We were happy to see Tichak, the night watchman coming through the gate shortly after we got the mission house unlocked. He helped us unload the van!
Thank you for all the prayers, love and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
