It has started to sprinkle. We fully expect the electricity to go off. We almost always lose power when it rains. Such is life in Ghana. We are in the process of pumping new rain water into the large poly tank. We used most of the water that we harvested last year. We have been waiting for the new rain water to settle and become clear. The water seems to go through a natural cleansing process. Today the water was clear and had no odor whatsoever so we started harvesting it. Steve treated it with chlorine as soon as it was collected in the cistern. He also treats it in the poly tank. Even with all that we do not use the water for drinking or cooking. We use it for showers, washing clothes, flushing toilets and all the other things water is used for.
Mr. Iddrisu came to work late this morning because he is helping arrange the marriage of one of his brother’s children. There is a lot of traditional going and coming and exchanging gifts to make one of these marriages take place. He said his brother was too old to help with the marriage so Mr. Iddrisu is going to represent the family. He will not be able to come to work tomorrow at all because it is the “big” day for the marriage. There is always a dowry involved and gifts for the in-laws and mothers and fathers. We are not even sure if the person getting married is a boy or a girl. Maybe we can find out more when he comes back to work on Monday.
We spent the bulk of the day working on the marriage booklet. Steve plans on teaching the lessons one by one and then compiling the booklets after he has taught the material. While he is teaching he will distribute paper copies of the material so they will be able to go back to their villages and teach the material to the various congregations.
Our son Aaron and his wife Melissa got a new puppy yesterday. Their kids have been longing for a puppy for such a long time. Eliza counted all the money in her possession and then she counted all of Logan’s money. After she made the calculations she went to her parents and presented her plan as to how to finance a puppy; of course it involved not only her money and Logan’s money but money from both her mom and dad! How sweet is that? The puppy was a surprise and the kids were thrilled to death. Eliza could not quit thanking them for the puppy. Even after they got a puppy she was willing to help pay for it! The puppy whimpered most of the night!
Have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
