It was very quiet at the compound today.  We only had one worker here; it was Nazo, the day man’s regular day to work and we only had one visitor today.  Dawda, the mason came first thing this morning to tell us that we had forgotten to pay for the wheel barrows that we rented; we rented them from him.  One would think that the masons would provide their own tools but that is not the case in Ghana.  If we had not rented them from Dawda we would have had to rent them from someone else.  There are 3 wheel barrows here at the mission house but the masons do not like them; they say that they are too heavy.

We went to check on the green truck this morning.  Gomda, the mechanic, worked on the front end yesterday, I think that he got that part fixed but he noticed that the bolts on the passenger seat had rusted through the floorboard.  He wanted to keep the truck and fix the problem.  Really a little rust is to be expected after all the truck was bought in 1997.  With these roads it is amazing that it is still running!

Our next stop was the electric company.  They still have not reimbursed us for the money that was left on the pre-paid card when they changed the meter.  Steve talked to the manager this morning; he is supposed to fill out a form so we can get a refund but today he did not understand and he believes that the amount has already been transferred.  Steve will have to go back up there and explain the situation again.  The men that actually came out and did the work understand what happened with the card but the manager does not.  Steve said he figures that we should just kiss the money good-bye but I want my money back!  Ha!  It would be easier just to let it go but “It ain’t right!  It just ain’t right!”

This morning Steve noticed that the front tire of the van that we will be taking to the airport Sunday week had a flat front tire.  We have so many flats!  He found an earring post stuck in the tire but the thing was tiny so we doubt that it caused the leak.  Steve pumped the tire up and so far it has been holding air.  If it has a leak it is a very slow leak.  He will watch it this week and see what happens.

Yesterday Amama said that her husband’s third wife delivered a baby girl.  Imagine how many kids you would end up with if you had 3 or 4 wives and no one wanted to restrict the number of kids you had.  In fact in many of the multiple wife households having babies is a competition.  All the wives are trying to outdo the other wives and have more children to gain favor with their husband.  Please!

Hope you have a great day!
