The father of the child that needs surgery to correct their Hermaphroditism came back this morning. We wanted to help father but he had no idea how much the surgery would cost. Steve told him without an amount we would not know how to help. The father went back to Tamale and talked to the doctor that is going to do the surgery. The doctor said that he would not charge to do the surgery but the child would be in the hospital for a while and the family would be responsible for medicine and dressings. The doctor gave an estimation of 3,000 Cedis which is a little less than $300 dollars. We agreed to help with the surgery. The father was very happy that we were going to help. We pass his thanks on to those that give us money for the children. The father said that there are those in his family that do not want the child to have the surgery because they said that is too much money to spend on one child! Please! Steve assured the father that he was doing the right thing and the child would have a better quality of life for having the surgery.
Saturday we went to Zorash’s neighbor’s garden; his cabbage was ready to harvest so we bought 6 nice heads from him. He was also growing Ayoyo; a type of tiny green leaf. We bought some even though we have never eaten this type of green leaf. This morning we had Amama wash the Ayoyo. Zorash and Amama showed me how to cook it. It was delicious. I had planned on eating it with boiled yams but they thought that was disgusting because that is not the way it is normally eaten. We went to the market and bought fermented corn dough and fermented cassava dough and they cooked Banku for us to eat with the Ayoyo. It was delicious! I am excited that we had enough Ayoyo for another meal because tomorrow I am going to boil yams and eat it with yams. Ha!
Red stopped by for a visit so he could see the offering bag with the fabric on it. He thought it was wonderful. Sayibu worked his electricity but he said that he was not able to finish it all on Saturday. Sayibu came to the mission house this morning and worked on the electricity at the Child Center. The meter runs even when nothing is running. He found several problems but the main problem was that the mice/ rats had gotten into the attic and chewed the wires which caused several shorts. He also had to change out some of the plugs and run new wire. Hopefully this will solve our problem.
We saw lots of mothers this morning because the clinic beside us started giving immunizations today. There has been a shortage of vaccines in our area and many of the children are behind on their immunizations. The mothers come to the Center after they get injections so they can get Tylenol for the children. The clinic does not give out Tylenol.
Steve is feeling much better today; he is just about back to his old self except his taste is still off because of the Flagyl but that will go away in a few days.
Enjoy your day!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
