All the workers were happy to see us this morning.  Around noon I started cooking lunch and if any of you have ever experienced “Cooking with Kandie” I am like a tornado in the kitchen.  I get food cooked quickly but I dirty tons of dishes as I go.  Amama, the lady that helps in the house was trying to keep the dishes washed behind me; she said, “Sister Kandie is Home!”  Ha!

In our absence the Child Center had run out of many things including weaning mix.  So we went with Zorash to the market to buy the corn and then we backtracked to Zorash’s house to buy soybeans from her.  She buys some of the grains when the price is low so she can make a little money when the price goes up during the dry season.  We also picked up the Shea Butter that she purchased last month for the Center.  She has a nice storeroom to pack things in.  She also had a 220 pound bag of Shea Nuts as well as one of soybeans and one of corn.

While we were in the market we bought vegetables, talcum powder, baby soap and paint.  The back of the truck was full when we returned to the mission house.  It has been threatening to rain all day so the weather was cooler and we enjoyed walking around the market.  I was disappointed with our cabbage selection; usually at this time of the year the cooler weather and rain allow the cabbage to grow big but that was not the case today.  We found plenty of cabbage but they were small, full of worm holes and had no weight to them.  I bought 4 anyway because I want to start a batch of Kimchi.  A little while ago I got the cabbage cut up and salted.  It will have to sit overnight.

Red stopped by this afternoon to pick up some money.  He is buying a bed liner for my brother Paul’s pickup.  The pickup is parked behind the garage.  Red will bring the bed liner on Friday and install it in the truck.

The main road leading from the mission house through Yendi is being reworked.  It will be nice when it is finished but right now with all the rain it is a muddy mess.  A mile or so from the center of town there is a great gully where all the water from all sides of Yendi runs to.  The place has always been a flood hazard.  About a month ago they finished construction of the guttering system to carry the excess water away.  They underestimated the amount of runoff water and the area flooded yesterday worse than ever.  The big equipment was out there digging the road up again.  It is a good thing that they had not finished the project before the heavy rains came and they could see where the fault is.

Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.

In HIS Service,

Steve and Kandie
