Yesterday was a national holiday; May 1st is “Workers’ Day”.  Who knew?  None of the workers are working this week except Tichak, the night watchman but we still have to give them the holiday.  The extra holiday came at the perfect time because Ramadan, the month-long fast, was supposed to end last night but there were too many clouds so they did not see the moon in the Northern part of Ghana so they could not break their fast last night!  They will break their fast tonight.  Now mind you there is scientific evidence as to when the new moon will come but still all around the world there are discussions as to whether the moon has appeared or not.  A new moon is very difficult to see but the first tiny sliver of a moon is easier to see.  The workers will take “Workers’ Day” to add to their holiday so they won’t have to come back to work tomorrow.  Not all of them were scheduled to come back to work tomorrow anyway.

Steve and I got up early this morning and got the rest of the wires put in the razor wire that we attached on Saturday.  Part of the morning we were working in the shade which made it very nice!  Any time we can get in the shade we do!

We needed electricity for the pre-paid electrical meter on the main house; we thought that they might not be open today because of the holiday but the lady told Steve that they are even open on Saturday and Sunday now.  We were afraid we would have to run the generator if we ran out of units; we were happy that the office was open.

Steve has gone to town to try to find a new breaker box for the air conditioner in our bedroom.  When we came back from town we found the breaker thrown and the air conditioner off.  Steve switched it back on and it went off again.  He checked the voltage that was coming into the house and instead of 240 volts we were getting 268 volts.  He figures that is what kicked off the breaker.  He switched over to the generator and the breaker still got hot and kicked off.  He is hoping that changing the breaker will solve our problem.   Hopefully it did not burn out something in the air conditioner!  If he does not get it fixed we will be moving into the spare bedroom.

Thank you for the love, prayers and support.  We appreciate you!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
