We were invited to visit the congregation at Jakpumba today. This village is in the Nanumba North District which is located south of Yendi. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the turnoff to the bush road and then it is another 20-25 minutes to the location. What is odd about this congregation is there are only 2 men who attend regularly. A few of their young men are in school in other parts of the country. They are present when it is between school terms. There were 65 people present for the service which consisted of women and children.

This congregation has been trying to put up a new building for some time. It is difficult to do that when there are so few men. The front wall of this building along with 2 feet of the concrete floor has dropped down about 6 inches due to the termites tunneling. The wall is still standing but the roof is helping to hold it up. When the floor dropped the brethren decided to rebuild. But now they have the problem of a neighbor who is encroaching on the church’s land.  Understand that in the village the chief deals out the land to individuals without any land papers. Why the brothers didn’t stop the man from building in the first place is beyond me.  We have helped them with matching funds to mold some cement blocks but now they are considering their options to build on the same site or move somewhere else in the village and build.

The church members were glad to have us at the services.  We brought them a new bench,a broom, 2 pads and a pen, juice & cups, a New Testament , bread, and chalk. Brother David , a church leader, taught the bible class and I spoke about what people can do in the village and the Church .

After services we visited with the chief and asked him about his crops. He said it was a bad year due to the early drought conditions.

Before bible class tonight we went out to Kulkpeni earlier than usual to take back the pew that I had repaired and  cut the concrete off the legs of the church’s signboard making it easier to load in the pickup. The road crew building the road through Kulkpeni pulled up the signboard . The signboard has faded and is in rough shape so I will have the sign painters give it a redo and make it presentable again.

That brings this Lord’s Day to a close.  Hope you had a good one. May God bless! Thanks for your support!
