Steve got the bougainvillea trimmed up this afternoon.  They are beautiful plants but they are a vine and they have long thorns on them.  In the southern part of Ghana many of the compounds have bougainvilleas planted that trail across their cement walls to deter the thieves from climbing over the walls.  When they stick you it hurts terribly and is more likely than not to get infected.  One of ours is on the wall and the other one is on the side of the house.  The one on the side of the house Steve tries to keep trimmed like a bush instead of letting it climb.  We don’t get as many blooms from the trimmed bush but at least it does not grab you every time you walk by!

Sayibu the electrician seems to have solved our problem with losing electricity.  When we closed from the Child Center this morning Steve turned everything off; checked the meter and 5 hours later the meter had not moved!  We are very excited that he found the problem because buying more and more electricity was cutting into my budget!  Ha!

Mr. Iddrisu hurt his finger.  He said he does not know what happened to it but it is swollen and there is infection all around the nail bed.  He said that it throbbed all night and made it difficult to sleep.  He started taking antibiotics today and he said that he thinks it is a little better.  Because of his finger he could not do his normal work so we gave him rubber gloves and set him to shelling the peanut the church ladies had given us on Sunday.  He is funny; he would crack a few peanuts and eat a few peanuts.  I sure hope that the raw peanuts don’t tear up his stomach!

A lady came to the Child Center this morning selling plantain.  The plantain was raw; Steve bought plantain for all the workers.  They thought it was a great treat!  The plantain were almost ripe so they will probably cut them in cubes; coat them in hot pepper, ginger and salt and fry them.  The dish is called Kelewili (Kill-e-willy) and it is delicious.  They can also be grilled over a charcoal fire if you do not have oil.

In case you are wondering we did have boiled yams for lunch today with our Ayoyo stew and it was just as wonderful as we knew that it would be; it is too bad that it is not supposed to be eaten that way!

Take care and please keep us and the work in your prayers.  We appreciate everything that you do for us and for the work.

In HIS Service,

Steve and Kandie
