Last night I thought I had all my ducks in a row for this morning’s trip to the Nanumba District. When I woke this morning I remembered I hadn’t checked the spare tire. Guess what? I was flat as a flitter! This meant a change of vehicle for the trip. We loaded up the good red pickup with Timothy Niligrini aboard and headed for Kpande. The village is 90 minutes south of Yendi.
On our way to Kpande we pass by the Church building at Nakpa. This congregation is one of the bigger Churches we work with. For several years they have been trying to build a new building. They built the new walls around the old building which allows them to continue to meet regularly. When they have enough money to roof they will dismantle the old building and finish the new one. Kandie was telling one of our donors about the project at Nakpa and they gave money specifically for this project. This morning when we stopped many of the members at Nakpa were present. Timothy and I presented the money to the congregation which made them very happy and they expressed their thanks to us! I told them to give God the thanks as well as the people who contribute the money. The church members hope to begin the work as soon as possible.
The village of Kpande is 15 minutes in the bush from Nakpa. The church had invited us to visit them so they could show us their new building they are in the process of finishing. Brother Samuel, a church leader was teaching the adult bible class when we arrived. Kandie was quick to hand out masks upon our arrival. We try to steer clear of the virus as much as we can.
Timothy and I were given the opportunity to preach; Timothy interprets for me and does an excellent job! My lesson title was “ The House God Built.” The room was hot so human nature takes over such as the nodding of heads and trying to stay awake with a long winded preacher. There were 15 men, 9 women, and 34 children present and a contribution of 36.50 Cedis = $6.52 USD. After closing the service we had a lengthy question and answer period.
We were then treated to a meal of Fufu and groundnut stew made with a hint of smoked fish. I like Fufu and the stew but I cannot handle smoked fish! The only saving grace was the majority of the fish was in a bowl all to itself. I am sure the meat didn’t go to waste. Both ladies that cooked the meal received 5 Cedis each from us. They were so tickled to get the money. To our surprise we were also given a nice rooster and a large amount of yams. When we got back to the compound Kandie and I shared the yams with Timothy; we also dashed him the chicken.
That wraps up today’s events. Sure hope you had a great Lord’s Day. Thanks for your support. I know the congregations appreciate your effort to help them. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
