We had a hot, rough ride today! Our destination was the village of Jamoni located east of Yendi on the Gnani/Sabare Road. Today’s weather was the beginning of the hot, dry , dusty air that is called the Harmattan. It is the dust that travels down from the Sahara Desert . It actually helps to keep the weather more tolerable because it filters out the sun’s rays during the dry season. It takes about 1.5 hours to get to this village due to the bad road. We were late getting there because we have only visited this congregation once and we took a wrong turn so we had to back track which ate up some time.
The congregation was very happy when we arrived and helped us unload the metal communion table, gifts, and personal items. When asked what I should preach about I was given the subject of wives respecting their husbands and church members respecting the church leadership. I used Ephesians 5:21-25 as my basis of study that deals with submitting to Christ as well as husbands and wives respecting each other. The customs here dictate that women have to be in complete submission to their husbands or the husbands think they are not good wives. Most husbands and wives don’t trust each other with money so the husband has his money and the wife has hers. I asked the men how many of them were willing to love their wives enough to die for them as Christ did for the Church? Boy , that hit a nerve! It generated a lot of questions after closing the worship service.
The service was held inside the church building with 60+ children setting outside under a shade tree. It was very warm in the building to put it mildly. For some reason my face mask was making my nose itchy so I was pulling it off and on more than usual. I will be happy when this pandemic goes down enough to stop wearing the masks.
As a way to express the congregation’s appreciation for coming we were presented with some nice big yams and a rooster. On our way out of the village we stopped at the chief’s house and gave him kola. I forgot to mention that four people were baptized today. That is great news!
Late this afternoon we went into town and talked with brother Divine. He does a lot of work for us at the Registrar General’s Office in Tamale. We wanted to make sure we had the money in the bank that he would need to do his work while we are back home.
I am so impressed with the progress of the young kids that I teach before services each evening at Kulkpeni. We have been learning about the days of creation. I am using the paper plates that were made years ago with each of the six days of creation and the kids just love it!
That wraps up another Lord’s Day. Please keep us in your prayers as we travel down to Accra this coming weekend to get our Covid 19 PCR tests so we can fly home next Tuesday evening.
Thank you for your willingness to help with this work. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
