Today’s holiday celebrated Kwame Nkrumah.  I think he was the first president of Ghana.  Since it was a holiday the clinic near us was not open.  This clinic is where most of the women go to get immunizations for their children.  The clinic was not open today so we did not have as many mothers come to the Child Center as we feared might show up.  Not that we are complaining!  We still saw 89 babies and children.  Nazo did a good job of passing out the clothes.  All the clothes were in tubs marked with the age and whether they were boy or girl clothes.  We individually wrapped clothes so all he had to do was ask if the child was boy or girl and how old they were.  I am not sure that he realized that 18 months is the same thing as 1 ½ years because at the end of the day we still had a full tub of 18 month clothes.

Two new orphans were brought to the Center this morning.  One of the mothers died a week ago and the other one died several months ago.  Both babies were in pretty good shape considering what they have been through.

I think I forgot to tell you that Monday a mother brought a set of triplets to the Center.  They were small but had all gained from their birth weights.  They were a week old.  The mother said that this was not her first set of multiple births.  She said that she had already had 2 sets of twins.  She also had 3 single births. So the triplets are number 8, 9 and 10.  Can you?  That is the way to get a big family in a hurry!

Steve and I spent the bulk of the afternoon sorting, sizing and packaging clothes for tomorrow’s run.  If lots of mothers come tomorrow we might run out of some of the sizes.  If that happens we will give the next size up; it is strange how kids just keep growing.

Nazo told us that one of his friends at the palace saw us yesterday with the handicapped tricycle in the back of the pickup on our way to deliver it.  Nazo thanked us for helping the girl and her family with the tricycle.  He said he did not know the girl but Zorash said that she knew her.  She said that when she was young she could get around pretty well with her braces and crutches.

Today was the day for Mr. Iddrisu surgery.  We have not heard anything from him yet.  Steve thought about calling him but he is afraid that he might not be able to see well enough to answer his phone.  He might not be feeling so well either.  We will check on him tomorrow.

Thanks to all of you who make and give us children’s clothes.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
