We are back in Ghana. We left in a hurry when our precious sister-in-law Shelly Reynolds died! Her death was such a shock to her family. She was the wife of my (Kandie’s) brother Buz who died a few years ago of ALS. She will be missed by everyone who knew her! We made an unexpected trip back to the states to do what we could to support her family. Please keep them in your prayers in the difficult days ahead!
Some people have asked why we did not just stay home because our scheduled leave will be coming up in a few weeks. We left so quickly that we did not have time to put everything in order before we left. The Ghanaian government requires all Ghanaians that receive a salary to file annual taxes. Since many of the Child Center employees are illiterate they are unable to file the taxes without help. Even the employees that are literate do not have access to a smartphone or a computer to fill out their forms. We also have to finish the taxes for the Child Center too.
Presently we are at the hotel in Accra. We will fly to Tamale tomorrow and then drive on to Yendi. Our flight from the states was delayed a couple hours because they had to change planes. No one knows why they had to change planes but it was a bit confusing because there was a gate change and everyone’s seats were changed. The luggage had to be pulled off one plane and put on the new one. The pilots were able to make up some of the time so we were only a little over an hour late getting to Accra. At least we arrived safely with all our luggage; we were afraid the luggage would be messed up because of the change of planes.
Red, the part time driver, was not able to drive to Tamale today to pick us up because it is a national holiday that celebrates the ending of Ramadan. He needed to celebrate the ending of the fast with his family and friends in Yendi. The Ghana government has decided that Monday is the day they are going to celebrate the holiday so the banks, schools and government offices will be closed on Monday.
Thank you for all the prayers that were offered up on our behalf for our safe travels! Please keep praying.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
